Novelli Family Information

Post by LindaAnn »

My great grandfather was Cesare Novelli. He was born 6/14/1887 in Gallese (I think). I found record of his going thru Ellis Island 4/17/1909. His first wife died when my grandfather Ed was a young boy. We know info on the 2nd wife but not the first. He lived in the Pittsburgh PA area (probably Carnegie). Would info on the first wife be on any census ? HOw do you find that kind of info? I think his father's name was Francesco. That's all I know. Any suggestions are welcomed.

Thanks.

edit to add details:

from the same site the Naturalization document for Cesare:

Selected U.S. Naturalization Records - Original Documents, 1790-1974 (World Archives Project)
about Cesare Novelli

He was born on June 14, 1887 in Gallese (Viterbo Province - Lazio region) and he stated his wife's first name was Rose (deceased at the time of this document)
So maybe she was Rose Facciotti?

Okay... family was from Gallese. Now that I know the names of my greatgrandfather's parents (but not their birthdates) can I still write for info? Thanks.

He was born on January 23, 1868 in Pescantina - Verona Province - Veneto region (north of Italy), on the document you can also have his child's birth date :!: (Rosa was born in Italy on April 20, 1895 from her 1906 arrival manifest already posted, you can see she was born in Pescantina)

http://www.ellisisland.org/EIFile/popup ... &line=0023

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pescantina

If you check the Ellis Island (free) site you can see that Regina Facciotti did a trip back to Italy in 1913, on her arrival manifest she stated she was born in Pescantina, as her age was 44 so probably she was born on 1869... please note that she stated she was leaving her father Antonio :!: in Pescantina

Regina Facciotti 1913 arrival manifest:

page 1:
http://www.ellisisland.org/EIFile/popup ... &line=0023

page 2:
http://www.ellisisland.org/EIFile/popup ... &line=0023

From this side (Facciotti) you have enough dates to be able to write to the Pescantina Comune and ask for the certificates you need...

Here are some form letters to request the documents:

http://www.circolocalabrese.org/resourc ... civile.asp

requests to:
http://www.comune.pescantina.vr.it/uffi ... ff0503.htm

Comune di Pescantina
Ufficio di Stato civile
Via Ponte 7

37026 Pescantina VR
Italia

Hope this helps you....

If you check the Ellis Island site

http://stevemorse.org/ellis2/ellisgold.html

using Gallese (Town of origin) and Novelli (lastname) you'll se there were just a few Novelli ...
you'll be able to find at least two arrival manifests for your great-grandfather Cesare Novelli, in the second (1909) he stated he was leaving in Italy (Gallese - Viterbo Province - Lazio region) his father Francesco:

1909 arrival manifest page 1:
http://www.ellisisland.org/EIFile/popup ... &line=0028

1909 arrival manifest page 2:
http://www.ellisisland.org/EIFile/popup ... &line=0028

Comune di Gallese
Ufficio di Stato Civile
Piazza Duomo, 1

01035 Gallese VT
Italia

Laura,

Thank you so much! This is a big help. I have great news.... by contacting a granddaughter of Cesare (thru his 2nd wife) I have heard from some cousins in Italy. I now have Cesare's siblings names and his parents names! Can't wait to get back on the computer.

Thanks for all your help!
