Hi There,
The Family History Center has microfilm for the town Sant'Elia Fiumerapido. You can order and rent the film for about $3.50 depending your location. Here are the film numbers. http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... =1&last=50
Fred lionel decieco's parents used to live in bristol in the late 1800's. his parents used togo back to italy so that the children were born in what they called the old country. Lionel had a son called lionel born in 1916 and who was kileed in action on 1st june 1940 at dunkirk. lionel married cisily jones and they had 14 children of whom only marie is still alive. my father was lionel's son bernard decieco who was born in cornwall in 1928.
as to the spelling of the surname it is due to the family being iliterate when they came to this country and how the nuns taught them how to spell it. also there is a spelling of the surname of deccieco.
I know that some of the family did emigrate to the usa of a and one family member work as an actor called bobby decieco, and appeared in the film the philadelphia experiment.
Being Rememberence sunday, I searched for Lionel's name, as I knew he was listed on the Launceston war memorial, and came across your post here.
My granny was Doris, Bernard's sister. I knew Doris's grandfather was Italian, but don't know anything beyond this. I know that one of the brothers anglicised the surname to Dale during the second world war due to not wanting a name linked with the opposition, I presume.
Do you how the Decieco's found their way to Bristol, and then on to Cornwall?
Joseph Diececa and Hester are shown on the 1911 census as surname Deceica with their family. Joseph was the Landlord of a lodging house at 20 Quay St, PENZANCE, Cornwall.
Joseph was 60
Hester 49
Lynter (which I take is is Lionel) 19 born in Italy
Angelo age 13 born in Italy
Annie (Anntionette) age 11 born in Italy
William age 5 born in Penzance
Dommonic age 3 born in Penzance
One of the lodgers was Arthur Hall who eventually married Annie (my Grandmother) in 1915 she was probably still 15. and settled down in Penzance.
She had a son Peter Ambrose out of wedlock at age 13 and he was a Dececio Born 12/2/1914 in Penzance Died Bristol 3/12/11984
Annie had a brother Joseph born 1918. Died in WW2 aboard the Empire Mica of the coast of Florida in 1942 Name on Trinity Sq London memorial
Hester left Joseph and took William and Dominic back to Italy. Dominic returned sometime later.
If there is anyone from this line of the tree I would appreciate any contact.
My Uncle Ken told me that Deceico brought Ice Cream to Cornwall and its documented in a book?
