Post by wldspirit »

I'm from Illinois........Ladd is near Springvalley, vast coalmine area..lots of
Italians came to Springvalley to work the mines. Roanoke is southeast of Springvalley, maybe 45 minute drive. VERY small town!! I don't know about the past history of Roanoke, but now it is mostly all farmers. Cedar Rapids is in Iowa.
mfjp, can't remember which census, but they show up in a Peoria census,
or which names. My mother recalls Bobby........but he was a child, cannot recall parents names.........

Hi Lee, thank you! Peroria is just south west of Roanoke. It does seem close by too. I did make a mistake... Angiolina's manifest.... said she would be going to Central Rapids? and not Cedar Rapids as I first mentioned... take a look... it's hard to read.. really appreciate your help.

Thanks for all new information. I will start with the Beoletto and go from there. I think maybe I'll check Locana since Caterina Bioletto was from there, there is a chance they were married there also. I have obits from Caterina and daughter Lena but not much info there.

Thanks

Translation of the above post....

My name is Cristian Bioletto, and live in Argentina. I can say to you
that the father of my great grandfather was called Pietro Bioletto and
was married with a Descalzi. When my great grandfather (Attilio
Bioletto) immigrated to Argentina in 1908, he left a son in Torino called
Angelo Bioletto. If you are interested, I have a photo of him. He was a
Military man.

Why do you look for this man?

Found that Pietro Bioletto traveled to US under the name Pietro Bioletto Rosso. In 1903 and 1897. He traveled back to Italy after 1910 but never returned. Thanks all for your help.

If you are interested, we visited Locana a few years ago looking for our relative, Pietro Rosso-Bioletto. He's a different one from the one you are looking for (a couple of years younger). We have a picture of a WWI memorial that has your Pietro Rosso-Bioletto's name on it. Our Pietro Rosso Bioletto is the one who went to Pence, WI.

Where would the WW1 memorial be located? Is this the Pietro I may be looking for?

The memorial is located in Locana, Italy (far NW Italy (by the French border and near the Alps--north of Turin) in the town square. Locana is a small community--about 1800 people. Yes, I believe it is your Pietro. If you write to the Mayor's (Sindaco) office, they can give you other information. Here is a picture that we took of the memorial when we visited there several years ago. His name is the 9th down (you can zoom to it).

Thanks for the information. I will do as you suggest. It just could be the Pietro I have been looking for. It would explain not hearing from him again.

Good luck to you! The mayor's office should be able to give you all the information you need. They keep very good and very detailed records. I hope you find everything you need in your search!
