Appreciate it Angela, yes I had mostly given the Allegati for backup detail to see if that 1915 meant anything further. I appreciate all the other translations. I will say most of the other family members you and other have translated have been much earlier at least thus far for my family areas. One of my most recent the wife was only 20. To darkerhorse's earlier point, could he have been in the military and that delayed the pursuit of marriage?... I am researching further to try and figure that piece out.

Also, I did not see any of the other key words you had pointed out to me previously celibe or nubile that I could make out in the documents. (I'm learning lol :) )

I did ask the commune if they could provide a copy of the actual registry entry, because for some reason that particular book for 1919 is not online. Mostly because I would like a copy, but I will see if by chance anything else sticks out.

Just a quick answer here as I have a commitment shortly. You would need to write to the Provincial State Archives to request a copy of his military service. There are some on line for some provinces but very few. (I recall that we were looking at some lists on another post earlier in the year.) Just check the Provincial State Archives website first to see what they have on line. (I've always had to write to the State Archives for my military records).

Yes, the two provinces that we know he lived in Mantova (born) and Parma are both unfortunately not online military wise. Parma has a request form and actually did another search for me fairly quickly, unfortunately here since he was not born in the province they are directing me to Mantova (even though there is a chance he's in their records) I'm reading it that they want me to determine he's not in the Mantova archives before they spend the time as its a manual search for them as well. The commune of now Borgo Virgilio in Mantova shows no other births or civil events for the family after Vittorio's (2nd born) birth in 1882, so I have my suspicions that the family moved but nothing concrete. The civil records for the commune of Langhirano in Parma aren't online yet either that I've found, so nothing to go off there yet.

I have written to the Mantova archives via the email address they listed on the site, but I'm assuming the turnaround will likely be lengthy.

Thanks!

Hi Deigo1

Just a quick message. There should be a Lista di Leva for Vittoria in the Province of Mantova, where Vittorio Menossi was born. Hopefully it will be a straightforward find, because the lists, which contained the names of all the baby boys born were compiled by year of birth. This is why it is important to know at least the year of birth that a male was born in. If he was registered at birth, and we know Vittorio was, his name will be on that list, regardless of whether he was in the armed forces or not. The archivist will look at the relevant register containing the 1882 births and look for his name. (If the registers are anything like the ones I’ve seen/worked with, they are fascinating, huge, heavy and can be really dusty if they haven’t been stored properly.) Besides his name, birth date, town of birth etc, the register will show any outcome of his call to serve at age 20/21? Whenever I’ve written to my Province I have heard back within a day or two. It’s been 3 to 4 years since I last requested a military record but normally there was a fee to cover the cost of photocopying and postage. Hopefully they will email the information to you which should cut the cost.

BTW: In case you didn't realise, there are military lists on line, for the Province of Parma, which you can only view at a Family History Centre or Affiliate Library: https://www.familysearch.org/search/cat ... %20Library

Also, there's quite a good article here about Liste di Leva, which I now wish I had read before my somewhat inadequate explanation: https://www.familysearch.org/en/wiki/It ... ry_Records
