Hi Kristina,

Found the manifest I was talking about.... but I don't think it's him as the birth year is off by 6 years.. plus he was married...

The arrival year is right... Yuan as transcribed could be Juan or Giovanni or John.... , the surname is close... ,

1913 Manifest...

First Name: Yuan
Last Name: Cergal
Ethnicity: Austrian-Slovenian
Last Place of Residence: Yotov, Austria
Date of Arrival: Mar 19, 1913
Age at Arrival: 27y Gender: M Marital Status: M
Ship of Travel: Martha Washington
Port of Departure: Trieste
Manifest Line Number: 0007

I don't give up too quickly... and will look at the Carpathia record one more time...

It may not amount for much... but would like to park the manifest here for now...

I was looking at the Baptism Record.. I noticed that the word after Josphus Rabor looks like it may not say "Ales"....

Suanj had said that it was Ales meaning Alessandro. But if you look at the last letter and look at some of the other letters to me it does not look like a "S" maybe a "P" or an "F"

Any suggestions?

Kristina
Sure, I'll take a look... back soon.

Maria :P

Further... at first glance it looks like a partial word... def. or defunto... it does look like def. Martini...

The record keeper had a flair on is Caps... I don't think that was a letter "A"

So the Patrinorum (Godfather) was Josephus Robar who's father is the (deceased) Martini....

Other opinions welcomed... take a look!!

At the bottom right... you will see the name Dominic Miculian (other records show as Mikulian)... this is the person John (Giovanni) Cergnul claims to have travelled with on Nov. 1913 on the Carpathia.

Any volunteers to re-check??

Certificate of Arrival

Please note that from what I can see, the Mikulian (Miculian), Cergnul, Martinich were all connected somehow...

Any help from anyone would be appreciated...

Thank you Kristina for your wonderful recap!

Hi Kristina & Maria;

I agree that it looks like, "Joshephus Robar who's father is the deceased Martini."

Also, the town of origin appears to be Bergolo, which is in the province of Cuneo & region of Piemonte. Opinions needed :!: :!:

So I did a surname distribution on Cergnul & found that although not in the region of Piemonte, there are some very close.

http://www.gens.labo.net/en/cognomi/genera.html

There is no LDS films for this town. Here is the address to write for birth, marriage & death acts.

Ufficio dello Stato Civile
Comune di Bergolo
12074 Bergolo (CN)
ITALY

Letter should be in Italian & include a self addressed return envelope, a copy of your photo ID (required by Italian law) & an international reply coupon ( covers the return postage-obtain from your PO).

Here is a link to form letters that will translate English to Italian.

http://www.circolocalabrese.org/resourc ... /index.asp

Hope this helps.

Here's another Mikulian from Albona though... I still think that the Mikulians and the Cergnuls are related... but I can't tell you how ... just a hunch...

Giovanni's father is listed as Giaccomo as next of kin in Italy, off to join Uncle Giovanni Rudan in Shamokin, Pa

Giovanni Mikulian...

First Name: Giovanni
Last Name: Mikulian
Ethnicity: Italy, Italian
Last Place of Residence: Albona, Italy
Date of Arrival: Sep 08, 1920
Age at Arrival: 22y Gender: M Marital Status: M
Ship of Travel: America
Port of Departure: Trieste
Manifest Line Number: 0020

Maria

wonder who this uncle is...

Hey Everyone,

sorry for the delay, my weekends can be so busy sometimes. I looked at the Dominik manifest, it is so hard to say if it is him because we know nothign about him but his name.

So Robar is the surname of Giovanni's Godfather? I guess that I will try and look arounf a little of that name.

I am waiting to hear back from the NARA in New York. I am hoping that maybe they have a record of Giovanni arriving. I guess I will have to wait and see.

In the letters that I have that were wrote to Giovanni from his family, there are some other names in there. I will sit down and go through them again and see if any of the names in there might help. I will post the names later today.

Hello Everyone,

As promised I said that I would keep you updated.. I just didn't think it would be this soon.. :D

I had been talking to a guy in Canada with the last name Cernjul. He and his family were from the same town as Giovanni!!! Also his sister is over there right now. He sent my information to her through email, and asked to to ask around for me. She called him today and told him that so went to where the records are kept, and she found the information on I believe my WHOLE family over there.. :D :D

She was going to be being to information back with her in a couple of weeks, She also paid to get me copies of all of it!!! I well happy to get that email from him!

I thought that I would let you guys know what had been found. I am now hoping that the NARA also has good news for me.. :)

Thank you Maria for encouraging me to call people and ask them if they can help. If I would not have called this guy, it might have been years before I got this information.

Also thank you to everyone else here that has helped me in my search.. :D You ALL are great researchers. I will still be around the forum I would like to try in help someone else the way you guys have helped me. I also am trying to find infor for my mother about her side of the family.

I will let everyone nkow when I receive the information!!!!

Just noticed something on this manifest about the passenger on line 1, he was rescued from the sinking ship of S.S. Giulia and maybe brought onto the President Wilson... wonder what that was all about!!!

Also... here's an Albona surname list

Cergnul Cergnuli ÄŒERLJENKO ÄŒERNJUL

and that mysterious... Mikulian/Miculian... should be...Micuglian???

Link to Albona - Labin Region Surnames

As for Blatto.. could be Blato ... a town in the interior of the island of Korcula... would certainly explain all those seamen...

Did anyone translate Matteo's letter?
