Re: Lise: Surname of g g grandfather and missing g grandfath

Post by mfjp »

Well... the Record Keep was also confused - as we are, and had reason to detain him... I think his father's name could have been an issue

I think the father's name was corrected on the Detained Record... it does mean Guiseppe...

-----------------------------------------------

If I'm not mistaken, the Passenger List is written out first...

Then if there is an issue with someone- at landing.. there is an enquiry.. and then documented on a Detained Record...

I think the Detained Record is correct... since a call was made?? maybe...

But this Chianasi is in the way somehow isn't it.
Oh I know!!

Chianasi... is a unique name... it was put there for a reason (on manifest) and then corrected on the detained list...

I think it could mean something... I too would like to find out why...

the 1902 manifest possibly belonging to Lise family
in New Rochelle on 1910 census:

possible 1902 manifest

(note: in 1910 Giuseppe is probably 19, occupation tial (tile?) setter -
similar to WW1 card)

Hi vj and thank you! I did think that this record is somehow connected as well. But then the 1909 manifest (Ellis) says Giuseppe's father is Giuseppe. On this manifest (1902) it's Antonio.
The Italian Genealogy forum has helped me find out a lot about my Italian family. I am very thankful for all the time and effort put into this great community : )

Possible that Giuseppe Lise (at Mc Dougal St, possibly my grt grt grandfather?) and Antonio Lise (going to Carmine St.) are siblings or somehow connected?

Wow, these three streets are all very very close. 8O

I see.... getting more and more interesting. High possibilty the two records above contain the same Giuseppe Lise (tile layer, doesn't sound very glamorous does it! haha..)

My grandfather's name was William Anthony Lise which makes sense because boys often take his grandfather's name (Antonio Lise) don't they. But then this 1909 Ellis Island record (of Giuseppe Lise, whose father was Giuseppe too) is bothering.

Have not read all the posts so this could be a repeat...

The marriage to a Paduano....a name from Ripabottoni....and the name di Ioia comes from that town as well......

think that Di Ioia might apply?
