Re: Help with the Diorio name.
Missing Diorio 1900 census, a theory
The Diorio family may not have been in the US
when the 1900 census was taken.
The census lasted about one month starting on
June 1, 1900.
Note on the 1900 census that suanj found,
the only Porrazzo family members that were
enumerated were Louise (DeMarinis) and
her father Tony (Carmine Antonio) Porrazzo.
It’s possible that the D’Iorio family and Maria
(Addonizio) Porrazzo traveled back to Italy
together.
(probably to Pietradefusi, Avellino)

Re: Help with the Diorio name.
Nice work Valerie!
Ok, so it seems Suanj may be correct in her deduction that the family is from Avellino. And it also seems that the name may in fact been Iorio.
Giovanni will be pleased I'm sure!![Very Happy :D](/phpBB3/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

Good advice.nuccia wrote:Don't assume..its all speculation at this point.![]()
Who knows what the name was changed to! I only posted it to show you the options. You still need to collect all records to confirm..
Get your letter written.
So collecting all of the records may give me more info than what the online stuff says?
If so, fantastic.
Yeah, I guess there's no way of knowing whether the record takers and keepers butchered the names, or whether the people themselves changed them.
I guess I just need to figure out which records would be the most accurate.
Right?
Re: Help with the Diorio name.
Yes, it could. But I guess you haven't seen what vj's found yet, have you? It looks like it very well could be your Vincenzo. So collecting all of the records may give me more info than what the online stuff says?

Re: Help with the Diorio name.
His mother's name is Teresa Generazzo. Remember that the info that I have is from family records, in the form of a family tree. Of course, the Diorio name may have been Diorio or Di Iorio, but I think Generazzo is accurate, as Vincenzo/Vincent's mother's maiden name.vj wrote:Diorio/Di Iorio/D'Iorio

Nonetheless, the Porrazzo connection shown here should mean that this is my Grandfather... whether the family name (Iorio) is accurate or not. No?vj wrote:Diorio/Di Iorio/D'Iorio

Re: Help with the Diorio name.
I think the manifest is an accurate one Giovanni.
This Carmen was also from Campanarello Avellino according to the passport records online and his father was Ottavio. He was married to a Maria Addorizio.
Am sending you a PM.

Re: Help with the Diorio name.
In Venticano civil records office, Giovanni can find only the birth record of Teresa Generazzo giving the probable birthyear as in the ship's manifest( if is the correct Teresa as we think), I don't know if also Carmine came from Venticano, but also is probable, kisses, suanjnuccia wrote:Thanks suanj!
Well, I guess you have a decision to make Giovanni. I would take a chance and write to the address suanj gave you and see what happens. At worst, you will get a negative answer.
I guess its up to you now.
Hugs!

Re: Help with the Diorio name.
I just found a manifest from 1892 with both an "Angelo Diorio" (28 years) and a "Giuseppe D"Iorio" (22 years)... There isn't a page 2 on this manifest, so I can't get the other info.
Since Vincenzo (my Grandfather) was born in 1899, it ties in for either of these guys being "Carmine Giuseppe Angelo Diorio", no?

One thing I just realized about this.suanj wrote:well, maybe this is your VINCENZO DI IORIO born the 1/1/1899 in New York in a trip back in USA:

in travel with Teresa DE MARINIS born in New York 10 sept 1902 and with Maria PARRAZZO age 71, I believe mother of Teresa... as you can read the right italian spelling of surname is DI IORIO
This means that my father was concieved in Italia. Teresa was pregnant with my father during the voyage. My father was born on July 10th, 1926.
WOW. I certainly didn't know that!
How many times can I say thank you?

Re: Help with the Diorio name.
I have ordered the marriage certificate from NYC for Vincent Diorio and Teresa DeMarinis.
Thanks to Raffaella, it was easy. ; ) Next is finding Vincent's birth record...
Hopefully between the two, there will be info about Vincent's parents, or at least how their names were recorded.
Ciao!

Re: Help with the Diorio name.
UPDATE:
I found another manifest entry for Vincenzo Di Iorio, which says March of 1924, port of origin=Napoli.
The manifest only seems to have the 2nd page, so it's hard to tell which one is him without the name.
