DeFilippis

I'd like to help, and if u explain exactly what u r seeking, and what u already have in one message, I'd be happy to try and find some info for you.

Is this correct:

Ben was married in Italy to X. Where was he born in 1860?
Left X in Italy, or she died. They had no children, and he came to USA 1892.
Settled in NYC.
May have married Y before 1905. In Italy or NYC/NJ?
Did manifest show him coming to and from NY on several voyages?
He marries Josie. Do u have her last name or date of marriage?

Thanks!

I really appreciate you helping me. All the NYC births and deaths are no good because he came to Jersey City and stayed there the whole time until his death. The child listed is one of his sons. They never named the baby. He also had a daughter that died as well. Her name was Carmela and died in the same year I believe. Meluzza , listed as the mother, is confusing for me because Im not sure if thats a first or last name. This was his second wife. I dont know what happened to her and no one in the family knows anything about her. Its believed she and all their children died because once he met my GGM he had no children. They married and started a family then. Does that record tell you where they lived or what district of JC they lived in when that baby boy was born?

It shows the boroughs, i.e. Queens, Manhattan etc.
The "uzza" ending on a Sicilian name usually denotes a comical endearment, like Mariuzza,or Maruzza=cute Mary, or little Mary. Also, her dad's name may have been Melchiore, and also found in many older Sicilian records. So, she may have resembled her dad, or had his habits, and they called her Meluzza. there are a million reasons, as to why. But, u r sure that there should be records with the name Carmella Passaro.

Did u check the ports of entry for Ben to see if he went back to Italy. if he did, any entry may show up, and perhaps show his companion/wife. u have to check variations of the names because Ellis killed names. The changed letter all over the place. My family is from Campofiorito, and it was entered as Gamfioit or soemthing like that. My grandma's lst name was also a hundred yards off! P can look like a T and o can look like an a.
Also, "S" is also written like F or P. So, try different spellings. I wil see what I can find.

Based on your memo below: My great grandmother was Christina Defilippis. She was married to Alfonso Solazzi from Melfi, in Potenza, Basilicata, Italy. She was married in Italy, and came to the US in 1906 with 2 of her children, Alfonso came earlier with my grandfather.

As far as the 1910, its info is totally irrelevant to the 1900. He didnt marry my G grandmother till around 1905 and then from that point on had children. So before then its thought he was single and no children. But keeping in mind he was here from 1892 to 1905 WITHOUT a wife, that doesnt seem likely. Ive heard from some family that he DID have a wife in that time period but they dont know what happened to her. Possible a daughter named Christina. Im not sure though

See next post for 1910 specifics[/quote]
