Re: Searching for My Family
WOW! Thank you all for your helpful responses!
jcsm400: Thank you for the contact information. I have sent a letter seeking information about my Grandfather, Antonio Porreco in Torriglia.
Esperanza: I appreciate the photo site. I was looking at this the other day. It is refreshing to see it again.
Suanj: Do you think my grandfather may have been born in southern Italy and his family moved to northern Italy. On my grandfather's 1912 papers for Intention of Naturalization it states he was born in Torriglia. As a child, I recall my father telling me his father (Antonio Porreco) was from northen Italy. My grandfather departed Naples for USA. Why not Genova? As you can see this is confusing to me.
Fankoone - Porreco is my grandparents! My grandmother's name is not spelled correctly (Fantacone - from Campobasso). Searching my grandmother's family comes later.
Esperanza: Thank you for the Porreca information. I know there were some "Porreco" family in Chieti, but do not know how related. My grandfather had no known siblings. Step-father was Delillo (Spell?).
I THANK YOU ALL!
I AM STILL LOST IN MY SEARCH.

vj: I do not know my grandfather's, mother's maiden name. My grandfather worked for the Colorado and Southern Rail Road. I sent a letter for records along with a check for $27 to the Rail Road Retirement Board in Chicago, Illinois this week.
I hope to find out more family information.
Thanks!
Robert

Re: Re: Searching for My Family
I overlooked responses from you wonderful peiople on page 2.
Suanj: I do not know first names of my granfather's step-fateher or his mother. The draft records and immigration records you located are good and I have this information previously. Thank you!
vj: Your draft registration link is also good. I believe my grandfather knew his place of birth at the time he rgistered for the draft, because he documented "Torriglia" on his immigration papers in 1912. Why he witheld his birthplace is a mystery.
The 1910 census infromation on Fantacone is that of my 15 year old grandmother at that time and her family. I thank you for your efforts.

Re: Searching for My Family
Can you name any witnesses from the Naturalization papers??bob.colleen wrote:On my granfather's natuarlization papers in Denver, Colorado USA it shows that he arrived in New York on 15 April 1900. There is another date of 15 April 1901. There is Vessel Unknown on those papers, filed in 1912.
I have tried to find his arrival ship with no luck. His papers do say he is from Torriglia, Italy
At this point I am at a loss. I do appreciate your information very much.

Re: Re: Searching for My Family
Esperanza: Yes I can. The first witness is who I believe to be my grandfather's employer... Laurence W. Korfhage, Coal Dealer (1920 Census shows my grandfather as a driver, Coal Wagon)
The second witness is Basilio Olivieri, Saloon Keeper. He was my grandfather's brother-in-law. He came from Naples to New York on 15 May 1893. I have found some information on him.
Thank you for your help.

Re: Re: Searching for My Family
so the death certificate doesn't have town of birth information nor his parents' names?
Anthony's complete marriage record may have some additional information. The part of the complete record that will have the most information would be the marriage application. Also, if you can find baptismal records for your uncles, these may have additional information that was required by the church.
Is it possible that he applied for social security?

jcsm: The death certificate doesn't have town of birth information nor his parents' names on it. Just my grandmother info.
What I received from the State of Colorado (Denver) Vital Statistics was a Marriage Record Report. It is very vague, lacking information I would need to search his parents and etc. How can I obtain the complete marriage record? I will seek Uncle baptismal records.
I have a letter / check to the Rail Road Retirement Board (Social security Number found). Hopefully, I will receive a wealth of information.
