Re: Name on passenger list?
Woah....a Staccamore in their ancestry (if ancestry suggestions are correct) has a mother born in Agrigento. Ok. This might actually be leading somewhere. Still no idea why they are first cousins to my known cousins on Joseph's wives line tho....

Re: Name on passenger list?
Yes I'll post it here. My apologies for not posting sooner took a bit of a break.
I don't think I have any hope finding his parents cause theres only 1 dna match with Straccamore in their tree - what's bizarre is this match is a first cousin to multiple matches of mine on Joseph's wives line. Odd ...

Re: Did assigned foundling surnames ever give hints to origins?
The likeliest scenario for the first name Giuseppe is that it was given to your GGF by the hospital, informant, or city official, perhaps in reference to St. Joseph, as your GGF's birth occurred near Christmas.
However, it's also possible that his birth mother gave or requested the name Giuseppe ...

Did assigned foundling surnames ever give hints to origins?
I posted this in my thread in main forum but its kinda burried inside there so I wanted to ask here too.
The surname Stripe - Strepe here: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XQ5T-7SFT?lang=en appears to be British. The assigned foundling surname Eppes - is also British. Could the person ...

Re: Name on passenger list?
You could check passenger indexes to see if your GGF and Ignazio were in the same grouping.
Thanks. What does being in same grouping mean exactly? Both appear to be in 3rd class. For my GGF it says 113 - 1 https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QSQ-G9L4-6N96?view=index&personArk=%2Fark ...

Re: Name on passenger list?
Wow! Thank you for that. I would have never guessed I'd be back 5 years later finding out how significant that Straccamore passenger was.

Re: foundling - 2 placements with same family - bio family, right?
Thanks - I don't have time right now but after Christmas I'm gonna probably resub to ancestry and look into that much more.

Re: foundling - 2 placements with same family - bio family, right?
I don't get why they would do so tho - unless he was biologically related. I wish was more info out there on foundlings to know how common it was for their to be 2 different placements within same family - what that could indicate.
I just remembered too wasn't there a Joseph Straccamore in census ...

Re: foundling - 2 placements with same family - bio family, right?
What, no M family? I didn't think so.
Anyway, I'm not sure Stirpe is a surname.
You should check on the meaning of "Stirpe". In legal terms, "per stirpes" refers to beneficiaries.
Per stirpes is a legal term designating who inherits a beneficiary's portion of an estate or asset if that ...

foundling - 2 placements with same family - bio family, right?
Do 2 placements with the same family mean thats likely my ggf's bio family?
I don't seem to really have DNA matches to either, though both surnames seem like ones that would be easy to mispell or lose letters in translation/immigration.
I'm guessing this is probably the first couple which means ...

Thanks for all the information.
I received the manifesto today- you were right - no placement with the mastracchi's! But wrong about him remaining in home - he had 2 placements to same surname in Alatri - but the surnames don't sound very Italian to me. I'll post it in a bit I wanna see what I can ...
