Latter Day Saints Records

All 4 of my grandparents were born in Salemi,Sicily, Italy in the 1800's. I also have the names of my great grandparents who were probably also born in Salemi, Italy. Would the records of the Latter Day Saints contain microfiches of these records from Italy or would I have to be in contact with some organization in Sicily to further my family research. Many thanks for any help you can provide.

You can always write, in Italian, to the comune and simply request birth/marriage/death records. The address would be:

Birth/marriage/death photocopies of original registry pages are called: Copia integrale dell'atto di Nascita/Matrimonio/Morte

Birth/marriage/death computer-generated extracts are: Estratto Per Riassunto Per Atto Di Nascita/Matrimonio/Morte

Extracts are easy to read and generally contain the parent's names. Copia integrale are usually handwritten and much more difficult to read, however they will include the parent's ages at the time of birth as well as their own place of birth, the street and house number where the birth occured, and other genealogical information.

The Family History Library (LDS) has microfilms for Salemi spanning 1829-1910 (http://www.familysearch.org/eng/library ... Salemi+2++). Personally, I would try writing the comune first; if they are responsive (some are, some not so much), the records will be of much higher quality then anything you are likely to pull off the FHL microfilms.

@johnny i'm a little confused. once you fill out the information and you submit your request online....does that mean they have gotten your request already or do you still have to send the letter via postal mail?

Very few cities offer any sort of online services; generally, requests for certificates are made by postal mail, fax, or email.

These are from LDS- If you go to one of their Genealogy centers and orders the films- you can look through them and find the copies of birth, death and marriage certificates. You can copy them for your own records. This might help you.
