My maiden name is Stancher. My grandfather came from Tavon as a child with his mother after my great-grandfather died. They lived in Michigan and then Wisconsin.

Well, powermidget, I would guess that we have some connection going back to Tavon. Do you have names or dates for your grandfather (immigration, birth, etc) and his family? I have some things down for some of them so I could try to trace a connection. As I mentioned earlier in the thread (I think), I have the baptism and marriage records for Tavon on CD which I copied from the LDS library in Salt Lake so I could try to find your grandfather's name in them and try to find the connection. Let me know!

Hi Jenny,
My grandfather came through Ellis Island in 1903 at the age of 6 with his Mother. His name is Davide Stancher as was his fathers. His mother was Rosa Elizabeth Stancher.

Hi,
I'm new to this site. My Paternal Grandfather was from Tavon. His name was Giuseppi Fortunato Stancher. Everyone called him Fortunato. He came to USA in the early 1900"s. He left behind a brother, Guido Stancher. Guido had several children: Bruno, Elda, Rosetta, Elda, and Romona. Any info about any of them would be appreciated.
Thanks, D.Stanker

Hi I am not sure how to use this.
I have the history of Rosa Vielmetti, she is my my nonna’s mother. Rosa Vielmetti gave birth to my nonna and her brother - her brother first.
Apparently, Rosa suffered whilst giving birth to my nonna - I will not explain the details here in public.
I have the family photos back dated to 1904.
I will scan them carefully and provide a link for you sometime this year 2025.
I am going to Italy in June to speak to Rosa Vielmetti’s last surving niece - Andreena - spelling off. To seek the facts on the family information I have.
She is my nonna’s cousin.
My mother also knows the entire family story - it is VERY confusing.
So I will make a photo book from the original photos.
After I have made the books, I will seek a vote from any Vielmetti family as to where the photos should be kept - for example in a museum or where.
The album is a vintage leather album from late 1980.

I also have a photo of Rosa Vielmetti my great-great grandmother not sure how that translates beyond Bizz Nonna.

And I know her story but I will share it after I do my Fact Checks.

I am trying to figure out who Rosa Vielmetti’s mother and father were.

I look forward to us all helping each other piece together the truths.

I appreciate any help anyone can give me on my father's father. My dad is 77 years old and his father died when he was only 16 so he doesn't know much about him. He has treasured the information that I have been able to provide him so far.

That said...

My nonno was Guiseppe Franceso Vielmetti and he changed his name to Joseph or Joe Wilmetti (or similar variations; the spelling changed frequently) when he came to this country. He immigrated to this country in 1909 and he spent some time in Pennsylvania in Minersville and Jeanette. He settled in Superior, Wyoming some time before 1917. His brother was Emanuel Vielmetti and he changed his name to Emil Wilmette and he also spent some time in Pennsylvania before settling in Cook County, Illinois.

I have had trouble figuring out who their parents were. On his death certificate, they are listed as Joe Wilmetti and Rosa Tavonatti. I don't think this is necessarily accurate because it was filled out by his brother-in-law and I don't think they knew each other in the old country. I made copies of the film on Tavon baptisms from the Family History Library and when I found who should be my grandfather, it showed his mother as Rosa Stancher, not Rosa Tavonatti. I'm still trying to unravel the mystery behind my nonno's family.

Family legend says that he left Tyrol because he was in line to be a count and he didn't want to be so he left. I have found nothing to substantiate this but if anyone has any ideas on how to unravel this legend/myth, that would be great!

To the two people who replied with possible connections, I would say that it is very likely that our ancestors are tied together. Tavon seems to be such a small town that it seems impossible to believe that we can't be related with the same names in our backgrounds. If you have any information on your ancestors that can help us to make a connection, that would be great.

Thanks again for the help and if anyone has any other ideas, I'd greatly appreciate it.
