Death Record: Giacinta Macri

Post by AngelaGrace56 »

Death Record No 11: Giacinta Macri
Benestare: 21 June 1820
Giacinta Macri, daughter of the late Pietro Macri, and the late Grazia Giudaci, wife of living Maria Giuseppe Pannizzotto of Molochio. She was aged 30, Filatrice (seamstress), living Molochio, and died at her home on 21 June 1820.
(The wording is a little different in that it says “leaves her husband" (which I think is quite nicely put), Giuseppe Pannizzotto of Molochio, still living. (He died six months later. A twenty year age difference.))

Happy to help, Marie. You are very welcome for the links. There is just one more Death Extract to be translated which will take you back further: http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... ewsIndex=0

If someone can help with this I would appreciate it. Otherwise I'll look at it later in the week.

Hi Marie

Sorry it's taken a while to get back to you. It's been quite some week :D

Regarding the document that I referred to as a Death Extract, which is amongst the marriage allegati pertaining to Maria Pannizzotto and Carmine Noto: http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... ewsIndex=0, I've been looking at it off and on, and my understanding (I say somewhat nervously) is that it is an affidavit (Atto di Notoneti) dated 14 January 1830.….... concerning the death of “Nicola Pannizzotto, the paternal grandfather of Maria Pannizzotto, living in Molochio, future wife of Carmine Noto, son of Marzio of this town”. I understand that it is saying Nicola Pannizzotto died in 1805 (and from the text understand that this information is according to the testimonies/attestations given in faith by people who knew him?) I am understanding that the actual Act of Death was not located and that he was in Sicily when he died. (He may have even been born in Sicily but it doesn't exactly say that, that I can see, so not sure on this one. Unfortunately there is very little information given about Nicola Pannizzotto, Maria's paternal grandfather that I can decipher. (Often these earlier death records don't have a lot of information anyway.)

There's a lot of writing and there are a lot of words here that are unfamiliar to me and because I'm struggling to decipher the writing in places, it's not easy for me. (I've never studied Italian and have been reading Italian records for approximately three years.) It's disappointing that no one else has helped with this. I'd love to know exactly what it says. It is so frustrating because I can pick out words that I recognise but they just give me the gist, and I find myself going round in circles. If no one else here on the forum helps, what I would suggest you do, just in case I have misinterpreted or missed something important, is to post the link at this site here http://www.tuttogenealogia.it/ You will have to sign up. It is an Italian site with native speakers of Italian. It will probably only be a five minute job for a native speaker of Italian. For someone like me, it would take so much longer, because I would need to use a dictionary and then all the words wouldn't be in the dictionary anyway. It just wouldn't be a sensible use of my time. I'm really sorry that I can't be of more help. I've enjoyed finding the records for you and am pleased that, at least you now know that Maria Panizzotta's grandfather's name was Nicola Pannizzotto, which has taken you back further. I'm very happy to help again in the future.

Kind regards
Angela :D :D

Thank you so much, mmogno. It is very kind of you to post this for me on tuttogenealogia.it A big thank you also for going to the trouble of typing up the Act in Italian. I really appreciate your time spent doing this. Grazia molto!

From what I understand of what you have typed, my interpretation of the Act is basically correct. I understand now though, that Nicola Pannizzotto was in Sicily for work in the town of Monforte di S. Pietro. (I couldn't decifer Monforte before. And I couldn't decipher the word travagliare, neither. From this word, I understand that Nicola Pannizzotto undertook very hard and at times painful work?, which gives some insight into his existence.)

I'll take a closer look at the Italian that you have typed up again later, when I return from work. There may possibly be something else, different to what I have interpreted. I'm not too worried about the witnesses etc.

For Marie's benefit I'll post your opening comment. (I've changed the wording slightly so it makes better sense in English.) You have explained it so much better than I could:

“This document, a certificed copy, produced on 14 January 1830 and seems to be a kind of declaration of the presumed death of Nicola Pannizzotto, in the absence of a death certificate, required for marriage in Molochio between Carmine Noto, son of Marzio, and Maria Pannizzotto. (Nicola Pannizzotto, being the paternal grandfather of Maria Pannizzottto.)

Based on the statements of the witnesses listed, death took place in 1805 in Sicily, where Nicola Pannizzotto would go to work." Abridged.

Thank you once again, mmogno. I really appreciate it.

Angela :D :D :D

P.S. Since typing this note, I've noticed that Luca has made some adjustments. I'll look at that as well later.

Angela and Marty.... I need some more help please. I would like to see if we can find marriage records for the children of Amato Noto and Teresa DeMaria. I have Saverio's and Carmelo's (Malo) I have looked on the links you all provided, but having a hard time reading and translating.

Gaetano Noto born 9 April 1864
Maria Noto born 25 Oct 1866
Carmelo Vincenzo Noto born 01 Sept 1868
Palma Rosa Noto born 16 Nov 1870
Maria Concetta Noto born 18 Sept 1872
Maria Antonia Noto born 21 Dec 1874
Maria Rosa Noto born 08 Mar 1882
Angelo Noto born 09 July 1886

If this is too much to ask, I will understand. I am just so curious to link them to the Notos in the states. No hurry. Thanks in advance.

There are no Marriage Records on line from 1866, for Molochio, that I can see (unless they are hidden somewhere like the allegati were?). There are however indices for the years 1866-1915 inclusive. I've made a start and I can tell you that:

Maria Noto, daughter of Amato and Teresa Demaria (at No 118) married Domencio Zito, son of Francesco and Vincenza Iorianni on 2 July 1889 Index No 12: http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... ewsIndex=0

Gaetano Noto, son of Amato and Teresa Demaria (at No 145) married Giovanna Noto, daughter of Giuseppe and Maria Pannizzotto (interesting!), on 26 June 1890, Index No 14: http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... ewsIndex=0

Carmelo Vincenzo Noto, son of Amato and Teresa Demaria (at No 236), married Maddalena Rosaria Ringeri?, daughter of Giuseppe and Francesca Mezzatesta? on 8 July 1893, Index No 15:
http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... ewsIndex=0

Saverio Noto No 168, son of Amato and Teresa Demaria (at No 168) married Rosa Politi, daughter of Bruno and Concetta Morabito on 12 July 1902, Record No 11: (You said you have this info already) http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... ewsIndex=0

I'll leave it here, for now.

Ciao mmogno: "Ringiari". Grazie mmogno e grazie ancora per la tua gentilezza - typing the complete Affidavit was not a five minute job.

Hi Marie: mmogno has located the Birth Record for Maddalena Rosaria Ringiari, wife of Carmelo Vincenzo Noto, which gives the correct spelling of her surname and confirms the spelling of Francesca Mezzatesta, Maddalena's mother.
