Well, unfortunately if that were the case it is usually cross-referenced in the index. There are parts of central Italy the church just hasn't filmed yet. Up until about the last 4 or 5 years ago they had hardly touched the Province of Salerno. Veneto and Belluno still remain unfilmed for the most part, only to name a few..there are many more no doubt.
It is their objective to film everything so have faith it will be done eventually.

You are in the same dilemma I was in back in '88 with Carini, NOTHING had been done. Now, 16 years later we have Stato 1820-98 Church 1692- forward, and a ton of other records. Visiting the town would be a great start. I would start with the church records, so you can do it all in one place, try and familiarize yourself with remedial Latin, and the general format of Italian church records. They may differ in appearance, town to town, but the same basic information is recorded.

My grandfather was Salvatore Leone born Carini 1891 to Vincenzo Leone and Grazie.

I am only just starting to research this side of my family. I know my grandfather had 1 older brother already living in Manhattan when he came to the US in the early 1900's. I believe they both worked in the fruit market in NYC. This brother (Antonio) had 3 daughters, Grace, Rosa and Jenny and 1 son, Vincenzo all born in Manhattan probably between 1915-1922.

Is any of this familiar to you? There are 2 nephews of my grandfather that are still living, one in Carini and the other in the US. I am trying to get an oral family history from them, although neither one speaks English.

OMG is this familiar to me???? That is my great grandfather (Antonino).

Antonino Leone Born March 13,1887 Carini. Son of Vincenzo Leone and Grazia Marciano. He married 1) Concetta Arena of Messina, Sicily, and YES had Grace, Jennie, Rose and Vincent. Concetta (Arena) died and he married 6 March 1920 NYC Giuseppa "Josephine" Marciano (his 1st cousin). They had 2 more daughters Frances (still living in in Hampden, MA, next to my town of East Longmeadow) and my grandmother Antonina "Nina"! This is fantastic....Oh do I have information to share with you. Antonino died in 1922, and his widow Josephine remarried to a Salvatore Giorraninno. They removed up here to Massachusetts. She died in 1947 Springfield. I have the Leone's back to the 1500's in Carini.

I am going to Privte message you my email address.

Great news, the LDS church has just made available the entire church records for Carini. Baptisms from 1530-1910, Marriages 1565-1910 Burials 1527-1919. As well as Cresime (Confirmations) 1579-1903, and a very rare Stati d'Anime (1755-1836), which is an early similar record to that of the Anagrafe "Family Census" which existed in the late 19th Century. They are invaluable because they place the people in family groups with birth, marriage, and death notations as well as references to the family group listings of the children as they marry.

I checked just two days ago and the films were not available, yet today they are. I will be extracting them all and uploading the extractions to my Carini site for all to download who have an interest in Carini. To date, on my site I have the marriages from 1737-1808 extracted. If anyone is interested, the addy is:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Carini_Research/

I have been waiting for these records to become available for so long now, as 1/4 of all my ancestors are from Carini.

James, My Name is Vito Passalacqua. I'm first generation born Brooklyn New York. My father is from Carini. His Name is Guiseppi Passalacqua, and my Grand father is Vito Passalacua. My father has second cousins Vincenzo Leone who's fathers Name is Nino Leone. Any way I'm finding this very interesting. If you ever been to Carini. My father and his two brothers own the house next to the Castello. I'm going to ask my father for all the info about my grandparents, and great grandparents. I'm sure I'm connected in the list of names and dates you listed. :D

Vito, it does sound like we might be related! Vincenzo Leone son of Nino was my grandmother's brother. My grandmother being also one of Nino (Antonino)'s children. I can't wait to hear more !

You can check out a picture of Nino and his 2nd wife Giuseppa Marciano here...(his first wife died..she was the mother of Vincenzo, Grace, Rose, and Jenny) here:
