Surname commonality

As a nation state, Italy has emerged only in 1871. Until then the country was politically divided into a large number of independant cities, provinces and islands. The currently available evidences point out to a dominant Etruscan, Greek and Roman cultural influence on today's Italians.

Surname commonality

Post by lyn1982 »

A few years ago there was a site which listed the most common surnames in each providence of Italy for the 1800s and earlier, but I can't find it now. Can anyone help me out? I'm aware I can google it, but what's most common now may not be what was most common back then. I'd like something that tells what was popular then.

Does that site return historical counts or contemporary counts?

The information is based on current demographic data rather than historical records.
Analytics, intuition and a little luck here - this is my secret to success!

That's what I thought. I think historic information is desired by this poster.
