Thanks Toscana. After i posted the question I read the other posts in more detail and saw that there were quite a few folks with similar name problems. I too am more concerned about the birthdate. There is no naturalization certificate because my grandfather never became a US citizen. But as I said ...

I have read in various places that the documents used to establish your qualification for Italian citizenship cannot have any mispellings, etc. My Grandfather's birth record says his name is Michele. His marriage license says Michael (although he signed it Michele) and his date of birth on his ...
