These are my grandparents' names, paternal side: Maffei & Maltagliati. Maternal side: Garzotto & Covolo. All born in Italy.
I'd love more information as to where they may have come from in Italy, if anyone knows anything further about these families, it would be awesome.
Thanks,
Trish,
That is strange. I suppose they could have mistaken a 7 year old girl for a boy, what with the language barrier and all. Maybe that was her. I couldn't get through to the link you posted. It asks for a password, etc.
Does it say who this child was traveling with? Another Maltaglioti perhaps?
jcsm, I just talked to all three living relatives. None of them seem to have any documents from my grandparents, but I did get the correct spelling of my paternal grandmother's maiden name...Felicina Maltagliotti. She was born in Tuscany around the late 1890s and came across to the States when she ...
jcsm,
You're very helpful. Thanks. My parents are both deceased and I have only a two living aunts and one uncle, all residing in Pennsylvania, all in their 80s. I live in California.

I found a Rocco Garzotto who founded a candy company in Vicenza and I'm wondering if I'm related to him. Could he be a great or great great grandfather?
Riccardo, Thanks. I clicked on the Archivio di Stato di Vicenza, but I don't know what to do next. Do I click on the library or what? Where on the site would I find the Lusiana civil records? Where do I look for birth certificates, marraige certificates, etc.? I would also like to dig back deeper ...
Some discrepencies: Pietro Garzotto would have been 25yrs old (not 45yrs as it states) when he came over on the La Gascogne from Havre in March 1906. I think they must have written his age down wrong, but that's quite a mistake.
Annetta Gazzotto had an 11 month old child, Giovanni Gazzotto, with ...
Hello VJ, Yes, that's my family! Olive was my mother. We called Rinaldo, my uncle, Neb. Mary was my aunt, my uncles were Guido, Ernesto (Nesto) and Leo(n), my only living uncle, I call him Nini, because he was the baby of the family. Thank you so much. How do I search back further to Pietro Garzotto ...
Anyone hear of a place called Cavalieri? Since cavalieri means knight, I was curious to know if either the surname or the town (if there is one) stems back to the middle ages when chivalry was still existent.
Would it necessarily mean that someone with that name stems from knighthood?
I have been writing about that area of Sicily and came across a famous church that houses a statue of The Black Madonna in Tindari, Messina. It is located on a hilltop and I'll bet you anything it has a churchyard with graves dating back to that time. I just don't know who you would contact about ...
Contrary to popular belief, not all Italian given names have Christian or classical roots. Many names encountered in older records are almost whimsical, and some cannot be translated into Latin or any other language. In order to avoid possible mistranscription of a given name with which the research...
