Yes! I have noticed this too! I can go back six generations in my father's paternal line and find at least 2 "James" per generation. For example, my grandmother had 6 children, only two lived past 16, and 5 of them were named James. My mother's maternal line (Irish, though) were also big fans of ...

Help with deciphering and translating
My dad handed me a bundle of paperwork from my grandmother's attic. This was in the middle of emigration papers, birth certificates and, I think, a will.
