Re: Obtaining Records from Commune

Thanks for your input. I will retransmit in Italian.

Do you think email is ok or should I be sending a letter instead?

Is there normally a charge for the information?

Grazie,
TC.

Re: Obtaining Records from Commune

Carmine,

I found that site earlier today and used Google translation in order to read the page. I emailed that person but got a failed email report.

So it appears that I found the right site but perhaps that person is no longer there. Do you think I should try one of the other contact names on the ...

Re: Italian Ancestry

Suanj,

Grazie! The WWI reg card is amazing. It looks like 1917 on the card and calculating his age it seems so. I do not believe he entered the army as the war is almost over.

The 1920 census is the right family. The 1910 seems odd and may be another family. Never saw him refer to himself as Mike ...

Re: Italian Ancestry

Are there Italian documents which would show the wife of Salatore Caterini La Guardia?

Her name appears on one of the manifests but it is hard to decipher. Tessa gave three interpretations, Maria Luigia Converstino, Converolio, or Converchio. Children would be Michelantonio, Alfonso, Gaetano ...

Re: Italian Ancestry

Misbris,

Hi and thank you again. Not sure if there was another son Alfonso although Michele named one of his sons Alfonso. The wife's name is very hard to read unfortunately. Everything else seems to fit although the address is hard to interpret.

Just noticed you are in NJ. So am I.

Thank you ...

Re: Italian Ancestry

Tessa78,

Grazie, that is the family. No real regard for spelling it seems. And you are right, misspelling of Salvatore as well as surname and Michele died in 1928 of a ruptured appendix which as far as I know Italian doctors told him to address when he returned to the US in 1927/1928 after his last ...

Misbris & VJ,

Thank you both so much. The ship manifests are very interesting as it shows Gaetano and his wife (new info) and brother Emil. They are visiting Michele their brother and they are shoemakers which is a fit.

The naturalization record is fab.

Thanx again to you both, your efforts are ...
