Italian Ancestry
Re: Italian Ancestry
Do you have this second manifest for Salvatore. Was there another son Alfonso? Wife's name is on this manifest.

Re: Italian Ancestry
Misbris,
Hi and thank you again. Not sure if there was another son Alfonso although Michele named one of his sons Alfonso. The wife's name is very hard to read unfortunately. Everything else seems to fit although the address is hard to interpret.
Just noticed you are in NJ. So am I.
Thank you again for your efforts. This stuff is addicting. Do you watch History detectives on PBS? Not centered on ancestry but it is almost always a part of unravelling the mystery.
Grazie,
TC.

Re: Italian Ancestry
Wife's name on the manifest that mj posted is "Maria Luigia Converstino/Converolio/Converchio(?)", Scranton PA.
The address for destination reads "Ash St. 1028 - son Michele"

Re: Italian Ancestry
Are there Italian documents which would show the wife of Salatore Caterini La Guardia?
Her name appears on one of the manifests but it is hard to decipher. Tessa gave three interpretations, Maria Luigia Converstino, Converolio, or Converchio. Children would be Michelantonio, Alfonso, Gaetano, Emilio, Catherine, and possibly Dominick.
A 1910 US PA census may show Salvatore's sister Margharita arried to a Domenicali ? DiGen...? very hard to read info on the 1906 manifest for Salvatore.

TC.

Re: Italian Ancestry
Suanj,
Grazie! The WWI reg card is amazing. It looks like 1917 on the card and calculating his age it seems so. I do not believe he entered the army as the war is almost over.
The 1920 census is the right family. The 1910 seems odd and may be another family. Never saw him refer to himself as Mike and he spells his name Catarino. I have the Naturalization docs.
Spent time looking for obituary and cemetery info in around Dunmore/Scranton, PA but could not find any. I need to ask relatives for cemetery name.
Thank you again.
TC.

Re: Italian Ancestry
I found this thread while looking up some information on Caterino Brothers in Scranton. I will probably be going there this weekend to talk to them about some custom made shoes, so it appears the trade has been carried down.
Re: Italian Ancestry
Who are you? What do you mean about family trade custom made spam?

It is just a guess, but he may have actually typed a common word for the things you wear on your feet. This site has had some problems in the past with spam postings and that word is one that triggers the spam detector.TonyII wrote:Who are you? What do you mean about family trade custom made spam?

Other possibilities: custom men's two and three-piece you-know-whats.
