Re: Carminella Galotta_Atti di Morte

Thanks, Tessa! (And thanks for trying, Marty!)

And, WOW. 85 is a good long age now...extraordinary for 1866!

Carminella Galotta_Atti di Morte

Help with this one please? I have made out Carminella Galotta, daughter of Nicola Galotta & Vittoria Vota (sp?) and widow of Carmine Gagliardinio; I cannot find the when (other than 1866) or how old....where are they hiding? http://s13.postimage.org/p0h7eis1v/Carminella_Galotta_Atti_di_Morte_May...

Re: Question About Italian Naming Patterns

I am fortunate that many of the records from comunes in Potenza have been digitized and made available online. There, the records are presented as Atti di Nascite (Birth Acts), usually with an index available, so that one can search fairly easily. There is no FHC library in my town, so I have not wo...

Re: Question About Italian Naming Patterns

I have no family that I know of in San Mauro Forte, but am currently working in the records of Vietri di Potenza. And, I suppose our experiences are different. I find the birth records as easy (or not :) ) to navigate as any other. As to the other, I will say that you are lucky, if you prefer not to...

Re: GEORGIA MONGUSO

Understood. You will need to order some sort of document (marriage record, death record, application for SS number) that required them to provide that information. It is too recent, mostly, to be posted on the internet. You might try contacting the author of the article I linked to. She seems to be ...

Re: Question About Italian Naming Patterns

The town is a) probably going to take a long time to respond and b) is most likely not going to do a general search for you. You will have to ask for specific (names & dates) documents. They won't do the research for you. And, yes, it does take time, a lot of time, to piece together all the info...

Re: GEORGIA MONGUSO

Also, have you tried Googling her name? There is a story about a Georgia Manguso who died in 1975 that comes up first...is this your Georgia?

Re: GEORGIA MONGUSO

This entry in the SSDI gives her SS#. If you cannot locate a death certificate, it is possible to order a copy of her application for the number; that should have her parents' names on it.

Re: Niggly, I know...

I thought "vito" and maybe it was just this official being wordy..."in the house where she lived on San Giovanni"? Eh. It's not a huge deal...sometimes you just want to know ALL the words. :)

Re: Question About Italian Naming Patterns

I think the fact that two men of similar age and profession in the same town share a first & last name is a good clue that they are related. It is possible they share a grandfather, Giuseppe, for whom they are both named. Your Clementine is named for her grandmother; we cannot know from the info...
