Punctuation marks in historical vital records

I have received a copy of the original birth record of an ancestor from 1894. In several places within the body of the record there are 2 dash lines (look like = sign) written as part of the text. Does anyone know what those marks indicate. I know that 2 dash lines at the end of a line mean that the ...

Re: Help translating occupation

No, sorry...I don't have the allegati. And since he was born in 1797 (he was 29 when he married in 1826), his birth record was not in the LDS FHL Library. Since I won't be back to Salt Lake City in the near future, I may order the allegati microfilm from the LDS to look at in my local LDS Library ...

Re: Help translating occupation

I have been able to use the website listing Italian Occupations very effectively. However, I have come across one entry that has me puzzled. This is the Atto di Morte of my ggg grandfather, Pasquale Ciccone. He is the son of the deceased Vincenzo. I am trying to decipher what Vincenzo's occupation ...

Re: Help translating occupation

Tessa78: Another GREAT website!

Joannsalvo: This is the first record I found dating that far back. Perhaps that was common at that time in that town. I'm anxious to go back to Salt Lake City and try to find more records from that time and compare them to this one.

I'm having quite a good time ...

Re: Help translating occupation

Joannsalvo: WOW...what a great website. I will definitely be able to use that when translating these vital records.

Tessa78: I am starting to recognize the letters in the Italian handwriting, but there are a lot of letters (and styles) that don't quite register. Your translations look right on ...

Help translating occupation

I have the promise of marriage document (Atto di selenne promesssa di matrimonio) of my great-great grandfather Salvatore Giuseppe Ciccone and Filomena la Scola. I have not been able to translate the occupation of the first 2 witnesses. The first one (Erasmo - can't make out his surname) has an ...

Re: Help translating marriage notation on birth record

Can you tell me what the date of the signature is? They were married 30 October 1886. But I don't recognize the format of the signature date. It looks like 69189.

Help translating marriage notation on birth record

I have the birth record for my great-grandmother, Maria Durazzano. She was born in Borgo di Gaeta on 24 Oct. 1862. I have been able to translate the entire document with the exception of the notation regarding her marriage to Pasquale Ciccone on 30 Oct. 1886. It appears that she married him in Borgo ...

Re: Help translating birth record

I took another long and hard look at the record again last night. Could the occupation be "Fabbicatore"? If so, would that mean he was a builder of some sort?

And could the word next to the date at the bottom of the marriage note be "Caserta"? Is this the date of the recording of the marriage (2 ...

Help translating birth record

I have recently returned from The LDS Family History Library in Salt Lake City where I found a number of records of my ancestors. I think I have been able to translate most of the information from my GreatGrandfather's birth record. However, there are some details that I have questions on. My ...

Re: Ranucci immigrated from Gaeta (Elena)

Thanks for the suggestion. I continue to search for the passenger list of Filippo Cosmo when he first immigrated between 1904-1907. I suspect that his name is badly misspelled and that is why I am having so much difficulty.
