Re: Letter to Italy to request birth cert. -- please check
I did it on my own. Fortunately, my mother has kept pretty good family records so 90% of the work was just ordering official copies of everything and having them apostilled and translated. The birth certificate I needed from Italy was acquired by and sent to me by a distant cousin— a Faruolo!— in ...

Re: Letter to Italy to request birth cert. -- please check
I'm sorry. Rosa Faruolo and Sabata Sagarese were not the same person.
Sabata Sagarese never left Italy. She had two children, my GGF Giuseppe (b.1889) and Rocco (b.1886). She was married to Michele Faruolo, who died in 1904— the same year my GGF emigrated to the U.S. She died in 1920 in Italy ...

Re: Letter to Italy to request birth cert. -- please check
Hi, Edward,
That's cool that you've been able to locate so much info about your ancestors! Thanks for the tip on the Italian DGA web site.
In my research, I came across another Giuseppe Faruolo a few times, one who was born in New York. But that's not my GGF. My Giuseppe was born in Savoia di ...

Re: Letter to Italy to request birth cert. -- please check
Hi, Edward. Thanks for your message.
My great-grandfather, Giuseppe Faruolo, was born 1889 August 02. I know that he had a brother named Rocco but I am unaware of any other brothers. Giuseppe's parents were Michele Faruolo and Sabata Sagarese.

Hello, Gina,
Thanks for posting this now... 12+ years ago! I hope you've since found more information about your grandfather.

Re: San Francisco Consulate Expedited Appointment
Hi, Mary Jo,
Yes, I finally got my appointment and I got my letters of recognition last September!
It's SO tricky to get appointments in San Francisco. The best time to sign in is at 3:00 p.m. San Francisco time, which is midnight in Rome. That's when the calendar is updated and new appointments ...

Thanks, mler and suanj .
Yes, suanj . You are right about the discrepancy. The 1920 census lists my GF's birthplace as Michigan, when it was really NYC. My GGM lived in New York while my GGF was serving in France in 1918-1919. They married in Buffalo a couple months after my GF's birth and returned ...

Hello!
My mother has a citizenship jure sanguinis appointment in Detroit next week and she is still struggling through Form 4, in which she lists all the cities her grandfather has lived in since the age of 18.
His name was Joseph Faruolo, sometimes misspelled Farnolo.

USCIS sent a my GGF's citizenship cert on disc-- not hard copy
I'm applying for recognition of my citizenship jure sanguinis in San Francisco; my mother in Detroit.
In June I requested a hard copy of my GGF's citizenship certificate from the USCIS. I sent my request via snail mail and a couple weeks later my mother sent in an identical request for the same ...

Letter to Italy to request birth cert. -- please check
I am sending an email to my GGF's comune (Savoia di Lucania) to request his birth certificate, however I do not know Italian.
I pieced together a message from a couple internet resources, this forum, and Google Translate. Could someone please check it for legibility and intent?

Thanks, Biff.
I sent a copy of the record I have with my mail-in application to the State of Michigan. And I just re-sent it in an email explaining the situation and asking them to re-check. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hi, T.-
I have my grandfather's birth certificate and he was definitely born in 1919. I've learned during this whole process that accurate dates weren't that important back then. ;-) I just hope that wedding date is correct!
I tried to decipher the name and date on the newspaper you linked to ...

Ah, just realized that the procedure might be different for marriage and birth certificates in NY State. Sorry about that.
