Re: Asaro/Assaro and Saverino (names/DOBs inside)

Anthony (may be Antonio?) Assaro (or Asaro). In early life he wrote Assaro and later the 2nd s was dropped. He was born Nov 12 1881 in Sicily. He died in 1976. He came over around 1906. His parents were Louis and Mary. We think he had a brother named Joseph.

Antonino Asaro, son of Luigi Asaro ...

Re: Gianquinto and Piacentino of Cagliari

I haven't done much progress on the Sardinian side, but serendipitously (a post on a Facebook genealogy group) this evening I was able to do quite a lot of progress, 5 generations, on their Sicilian ancestors.
On Geneanet there is a tree, from Francisco Andragnes, reporting Lucia Piacentino , her ...

Tutone from Palermo

I am doing a research on the Tutone family from Palermo.

This is the first time I do a research on someone from Palermo, and I have hit a brick wall, and I was wondering if anyone has some suggestion on how to work around it.

I have used the late Hugh Tornabene's indexes, and the indexes and the ...

Re: Stato di famiglia

Is there a specific reason why you cannot look into the birth registers of Afragola yourself?

Re: Stato di famiglia

I did ask a stato di famiglia certificate to the municipality of Mazara, in Sicily, and they answered me they only started to keep those in 1956.
In another small Sicilian municipality they did show me a screenshot from the software they use to manage the civil records (they didn't keep stato di ...

Re: Index to Birth Records?

You may use the analogic indexes at the end of the registers.
The one for 1902 starts here and continues for the next 7 pages: http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.it/v/Archivio+di+Stato+di+Salerno/Stato+civile+italiano/Angri/Nati/1902/3889/101578350_00290.jpg.html

Angri was quite small, the birth ...

Re: Church Records in Siracusa

I am afraid I will have to bring you bad news.
My understanding, from the news I have gathered over the years on the Italian media, is that unfortunately the Catholic church has banned from all the Italian diocesan archives the members or agents of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or ...

Italysearcher wrote: 25 Oct 2017, 10:38 Sardinia did not keep civil records until 1866 so you will need to access parish records for the time period you need.
Thanks Ann, not a great news, but very good to know that.

Re: Unusual question re: Italian connection and how to best make contact

This is much easier said than done, depending on the generation gap. My great grandparents left Italy and never went back. So no one alive would remember them today.

My parents gave me my grandfathers' names as middle names.
My parental grandfather's forename is extremely rare, but I thought it ...

Gianquinto and Piacentino of Cagliari

I am researching on the Gianquinto of Trapani.

My largest tree at the moment starts from a mid-XVIII century couple, Antonio Gianquinto and Lucia Piacentino. Antonio Gianquinto, the father of Lucia Piacentino, and a number of their children were renowned salter masters, very successful businessmen ...

Just to let you know, I recently sent a similar request to the neighbouring Partanna, and they answered me the next day.

The mail address was not anymore @partanna.gov.it, it did end instead in @unionebelice.it.

Apparently the ...
