Re: Why would the geneder of my great-grandmother be listed incorrectly on her birth record?
Very informative PippoM! I'll write to the town and see if I can find a way to get the baptism record...I've had good luck doing each of those things in the past, but with the current virus situation, I imagine things have slowed down further.

Re: Why would the geneder of my great-grandmother be listed incorrectly on her birth record?
If your ancestor was a female, when she asked for a passport to emigrate, I think the correction had to be made.
Do you know of a way to look up or find if a passport was issued? I haven't heard of this being done, so I assume it's not possible.
I'm curious to learn more about how the record ...

Re: Why would the geneder of my great-grandmother be listed incorrectly on her birth record?
Did she marry in Sicily, or in the USA?
There might be a birth certificate as a marriage attachment.
Where did you get that record image?
I mean, if it's from Town Offices it's really strange. But if it's from Archivio di Stato (site Antenati), it comes from a copy of the register that was given ...

Why would the geneder of my great-grandmother be listed incorrectly on her birth record?
My great-grandmother, Vincenza Siligato, was born in Gaggi (or Kaggi) Sicily on August 24th, 1887. The only record for the small comune of Gaggi (population ~900 in 1887) for that date is for a Vincenzo Siligato. The record also clearly list the gender as "mascolino" so they didn't simply write the ...

Re: What are parte II (part 2) records for?
This is exactly what I was looking for. I did try to search the forum first, but the search isn't the greatest.
I am curious though about the people who are witnesses. In my experience, I can't recall a single record I have where a witness was a family member or a name I recognized. I'm generally ...

What are parte II (part 2) records for?
My understanding is that parte II (part 2) birth records are for special circumstances like foundlings. What other types of special births are there?
Also, I see plenty of parte II death records...what would be the distinguishment here?

Why would the father not be known on this birth record?
This birth record for Venera Puglia from the comune of Mongiuffi Melia from April 1844 lists the father as being unknown ("Padre Ignoto"). Likewise, Venera's marriage record from 1888 says her father is unknown too. I'm curious as to why the father would be unknown when the mother is clearly known ...

Re: Can't find source for Liste di leva record I found last year
Mystery solved. Turns out I wrote an email to the Province of Messina last year, and they found and emailed me the record. No wonder why I couldn't find it online.

Re: Can't find source for Liste di leva record I found last year
The online military records on family search are for the comune of Messina. I don't see any there for the town of Graniti.

Can't find source for Liste di leva record I found last year
I'm normally very good about attaching sources to my family tree when I find a record. I have a record for my GGF where he was exempt from military service for being too short (I think he lied about his height, but this is besides the point).

What to do about inconsistent names (1948 route)
The last document I need is a birth certificate. I have found her baptism record after much searching because her name is so different on the baptism record. I am using the name on the baptism record to request (again) a birth certificate from the state since they couldn't find one under the name I ...
