Re: Help with a Marriage Record
Thank you so much! That absolutely did not say what I thought it might say! I thought it might shed some light on a question I had, but it probably will be a mystery forever. Oh well....

Re: Help with a Marriage Record
Sorry. Some of them are really clear, and others are a mess. I don't understand why some of them have used the form, which is so much easier to read, and some records are completely written out. I always cringed when I found a record that was completely handwritten in cursive. Mostly I just wanted ...

Re: Help with a Marriage Record
Sorry! I will try to locate them again on Ancestry. Would I then just copy and paste the url?

Help with a Marriage Record
Hi, can somebody please help me by translating this marriage record? I'm particularly interested in the part after the bride and groom's info, where it mentions Vincenzo (not the groom, most likely the groom's nephew) and Gaetana. The whole record is hand written from 1882 and I'm curious as to what ...

Re: Help with a Marriage Record
I'm sorry, I don't know how to do that. Is there an explanation somewhere that tells me how to post it in link form?

Re: Translation of 2 marriage publications
I think I found 3 trips to NY for Vincenzo going back to 1904. (Maybe because immigrants were trying to establish whether they could make a living here before sending for the rest of their family?)
His sister Gaetana also immigrated. She called herself Ida in the US. She also married a Miceli ...

Re: Translation of 2 marriage publications
The link attached was for the marriage of Vincenzo Bentivenga (Salvatore's brother)
I have Salvatore B marrying Carmela Miceli in 1884.
I looked for a death record for the other 2 boys and couldn't find one. There were not too many years to search. One was born in 1908, the other in 1910. Calogera ...

Re: Translation of 2 marriage publications
Yes, I have Vincenzo’s marriage record. Once his wife came to America, she called herself Lillian. They had 5 children, 3 boys in Naro, and 2 girls in CT. Here’s another odd fact. When Calogera Fede went to the US, she brought only the oldest boy. They never went back for the other 2.

Re: Translation of 2 marriage publications
I thought I recognized the word "wife" in there, but I thought maybe it was a stretching of the truth. I never found any marriage record for them. I did find a marriage record for Salvatore and a different woman in 1884. And incidently, Salvatore fathered other children where the names of the ...

Re: Translation of 2 marriage publications
I always wondered what the allegati was. I can't read something that is completely written out. Part of my problem is I don't know the Italian language. The other part of the problem was i have a hard time reading their handwriting.

Thank you so much!
One of her children was given both surnames (the middle one) the other 2 were given the father’s surname.

Re: Translation of 2 marriage publications
Very interesting article. Thank you. I thought maybe so many were born outside of marriage because Italy didn't recognize divorce. Perhaps people were wary of getting married. But in fact it was the catholic marriages that they didn't recognize. I guess I had it backwards.

Re: Translation of 2 marriage publications
Thank you! I did notice that Alfonzo Vella was a witness.
Can you, or anyone, shed some light on their way of life back then? For instance, I found several birth records of children born outside of marriage. (in general, not all in my family :D ) Do you know if that situation was common back ...
