Re: Recognition of marriage, adoption?

It would be easy to look at this story through the lens of our times- but unfair to these folks. I can’t imagine the burden they carried. Thank you again for your help- from myself and my whole family. It is a huge step towards our understanding of our history.

Re: Recognition of marriage, adoption?

Ah! That makes complete sense now! The children were born out of wedlock- and the couple married later on. When you say "abandon" it means in the sense that she wouldn't identify the father? Or did she formally give the children up. (forgive me, I'm telling this to my mother over the phone and I ...

Re: Recognition of marriage, adoption?

Thank you so much- I guess my confusion stems from the fact that the children (or at least Giuseppe) had the last name of their mother (Guarino)- which led me to make an incorrect assumption that maybe this was an adoption or second marriage. I am largely ignorant of the way records were kept so I ...

Recognition of marriage, adoption?

Hello-
I am hoping some of you can help me. I found this record (through help here at the forums, thank you!) of what I believe to be a relative... but the wording on the birth record is confusing. His name is Guiseppe Guarino and his mother is Carmela (we know she was my grandmothers mother). My ...

Tracing your Geneology: What methods do you find the most useful?

Hello-

I have a general question for all of you.
What methods are the most useful for you when researching your geneology?

I discovered the Antenati website because of all of you, here (and many thanks). Do you use any other online resources?

Have any of you had success writing to city ...

Re: Information about family in Modica/Ragusa Sicilia

Thank you Tessa78- there is a lot there that we never knew! Maybe the girls were born Guarino- and later took the name Bellamattina?

The family did settle down in Bridgeport, Ct- that is a solid connection. A lot of questions but it is a starting point and I thank you.

We alsways thought Vincenzo ...

Re: Information about family in Modica/Ragusa Sicilia

There is a LOT of confusion, so all of these may be viable options! The rumor is my grandfather- Vincenzo Rosso left Italy because his mother remarried after the death of his father. I also know that Concetta married but the name we had was phonetically pronounced 'macauda'- I know the accents from ...

Information about family in Modica/Ragusa Sicilia

Hello again and thank you for reading this. After helping my father look into his family, I am helping my mother try and find her family records in Modica and Ragusa in Sicilia.

She is looking for birth records for her mother (from Modica), Giorgia Bellamattina or her older sisters Concetta ...

Question/Advice: Requesting records from parish churches?

I am really quite amazed at the records available for research! I have discovered so much about my family after being at a dead end for quite a long time. Thank you all for your help.

I think though that I've reached a dead end as far as what is available online (but I am a complete NOVICE at ...

Re: Nicola DeBiase, Cusano Mutri

I feel a little stupid asking but, I'm looking in the index of some of the older books and there are almost no 'D' entries. Was the convention at the time to go skip that (in other words, list the last name as Biase rather than di Biase)?

Re: Nicola DeBiase, Cusano Mutri

Quick question for you all. I cross referenced the military draft records with the record of birth... I found records for Domenico Di Biase in 1870 and confirmed his parents as Bartolomeo Di Biase and Carmina Vitelli. I could NOT find a Rocco Di Biase born in 1875 in the records of birth for that ...

Re: Nicola DeBiase, Cusano Mutri

Wow- thank you! This is great information! Looking through I also found a Domenico Di Biase 2/10/1870. I am so grateful for this information. Thanks again!
