Re: Help Locating Immigration Records or location in Italy
We ended up finding our records, although it took a while. It is very important to remember that when they travelled to America back then, they had to make their way to a major port. My ancestors down south had to make their way over to Rome, the ones up north had to make their way to Genoa. This ...

Re: Old Graves in Missanello Italy (Basilicata)
That makes perfect sense. In this case it appears that the Missanello cemetery was scrapped at some point. I have heard of some cemeteries literally going in and moving all bones to a central burial pit. Ossario comune I think is what it is referred to as. Someone told me that some cemeteries move ...

Old Graves in Missanello Italy (Basilicata)
Good evening,
I have a question for someone that may be familiar with old cemeteries in Italy. I was recently in Italy visiting and doing some research in one of the towns that my family originated from. While there, I noticed that the cemetery did not have graves dating earlier than 1960 or 70ish ...

Re: Complexion
These were generally accurate. Often listed as Dark, Fair or Olive. Some listed as Medium, Ruddy or Swarthy depending on when they came over. Generally if they were listed as Dark or Fair that was the biggest ones used. My GGrandfather was listed as Dark and my GGrandmother was listed as Olive.

Re: Do communes in Italy invite Italian Americans to apply for citizenship?
That is exactly right emmascott63! I would also note for everyone else on here that citizenship, even through the normal channels, is taking 3-5yrs even with all the proper paperwork, etc. It is not a fast or easy process. It will test your patience, your sanity and knock off a few years of your ...

Re: Do communes in Italy invite Italian Americans to apply for citizenship?
I am not aware of this being a process of obtaining citizenship through the normal paths. That said, if she has deep family connections, the commune already has all her families records such as parents, grand parents, etc. etc. It is possible for them to recognize her through administrative ...

Re: Question about new rules re: jure sanguinis
ok that is good to know. I thought because the parent (even if an italian citizen) having dual citizenshp would have the residency requirement to pass on the citizenship to the child.

Re: Question about new rules re: jure sanguinis
Sorry I just re-read this and I left out one detail. Your daughter was born abroad, so in that case there is a two year requirement. IF your daughter lived in italy 2 years before the birth of the child you can register right away. IF she has never resided in italy, your grandchildren can live in ...

Re: Question about new rules re: jure sanguinis
Disappointed in the new ruling re: jure sanguinis citizenship; appears to be misguided - coming at a strange time when Italy is experiencing a serious negative birthrate.
My questions:
1) I achieved jure sanguinis citizenship 14 years ago (via my grandfather) and at the same time my daughter ...

Thank you so much Angela!!!! This is huge. I think I can manage to get the bulk of the translations completed but if I run into any obstacles I will be sure to post them per your instructions. I know that you must be incredibly busy, but I so appreciate your efforts. I hope you have a great evening.

Re: Felice Guerriero (Felix) and Donata DiPierro (Missanello)
I followed some clues and worked out Felice's birth place (I hope):
1851 Birth of Felice Guerriero
Felice was born in Castelluccio Inferiore, Potenza, to parents Giovanni Guerriero and Maria Conte.

Re: Felice Guerriero (Felix) and Donata DiPierro (Missanello)
Well, I really want to thank everyone in this discussion thread. For those following along, Felice’s death was a mystery because I thought he had returned to Missanello. It turned out that he passed in 1903. Once I had a date range based on the city indexes, I reached out to all the local cemeteries ...

WOW...ok so Vincenzo Domenico DiPierro was born in Missanello and Maria Grasso in Armento. Maria Grassos mother is Angela Rosa Grasso of Armento, unknown father.

Just a note:
In the birth act of Filomena Di Pierro, her father is stated as Vincenzo Di Pierro, son of Giuseppe Andrea [Di Pierro]
