Zambrotta family

Post by ensurrection25 »

Greetings. I figured I would try this out since I have never had luck with anything else. I am a zambrotta by blood. Father Kenneth and grandfather Dominick. Dominick from somewhere in italy, then migrated to Brooklyn. My father was born in Brooklyn (kenneth). He had a sister named Delores I believe..I was told I have multiple cousins and aunts and uncles I have clue about before my father died almost 10 years ago. All I know is that from my fathers side everyone was from italy or sicily. My dad worked for new york city sanitation dept for 20 years and retired and was a member or whatevever it is called of the sons of italy. I would like to know if anyone out there knows of my family or may be related? I would like to know because I never got to know my fathers side of the family. Thanks

Since you are apparently starting out and even though you are not going to conduct (for the moment at any rate) any extensive family genealogy back in time before 1800 (standard and easy to accomplish), I am sending you to a website which should familiarize you how to easily and freely find your Italian Ancestor records.

Go to http://www.anzwers.org/free/italiangen/ ... earch.html

To start you off, most records and documents in Italy are in a City, a town or even small village of origin where all births, marriages and deaths are recorded back to 1809 for the most part saving those records destroyed by war, fire, earthquakes or some other calamity.

Should you know the City, town or village (even the province can help) then you can go directly to ellisisland.org and find Domencio (dominick's arrival and other personal information on the ships manifest.

We are here at every turn to assist you. =Peter=

Postscript: Please go to www.SSDI.rootsweb.ancestry.com and pick out your grandfathers death record so we can get his real first name since there does not seem to be any Domenico Zambrotta arrriving at NYC as an immigrant prior to 1924 and there is no record after 1924 for any immigrants arriving at NYC at Ellis Island. Once we have his first name and date of birth it might be easier to findhis place of birth in Italy. =Peter=

All of the finder sites cost money huh? I guess there is no way out of that. Doesn't seem like there is that many Zambrotta's out there until you type the name in white pages in New York. Just by having the same last name, does that automatically mean you are related somewhere in time to all Zambrotta's?

What fi nder sites are you talking about? Ancestry.com perhaps? But all you need to know is your grandfather Domenico place ofbirth in Italy and everything fall is place. I suspect that he had an Italian first name similar to Santino which he changed to Domenico (possibly when he became a naturalized citizen in brooklyn) Do you have any information about his first name or the name of the city, town or village he wasborn in Italy?? =Peter=

I am not sure. I would have to ask my mother, I am sure she would have that information. Actually I know she does in our family book. My father told me his fathers name was Dominick. My fathers middel anem and my middle name are Dominick because of him. I will speak with my mother and find out some more information. Thanks for the update and responses

HI Peter I found a Domenico Zambrotta naturalized around 1908 but was 33 old... if Kenneth born in 1936 I guess that this Domenico was a bit old for to be the father...
Merry Christmas Peter! Hugs, suanj
