Re: Vinci - Buccheri to Argentina then New York
I have Vito Vinci (born 1885) arriving Buenos Aires in 1913 at age 28 and this same person arrived in NYC in 1920 at age 34 (born 1886) and while the NYC entry reflect he is from Buccheri the Argentina record does not reflect town of origin but they are most likely the same person. If you wish to be absolutely certain there is someone in Buebnos Aires that check out his record in CEMLA (Argentina immigration Office in Buenos Aires) if you wish. The difference in one year betwen B.A. and NYC entries may be the result of his month of birth and arrival month. =Peter=

Hi,gaeber wrote:I cannot find any lists of Italians to/in Argentina. I did not find him in Ellis Island, nor any census.
Looking for info on Vito Vinci b. 1898 in Buccheri, Siracusa.
He went to Argentina as a young man, possibly with his brother.
I know he arrived in New York sometime before 1936, but probably in the 1920's. He married in N.Y. He owned a small grocery store there. I believe he lived in Brooklyn until 1946, when he moved to Florida.
I have Florida info on him. I have very little from Buccheri (just some family stories), N.Y. and nothing from Argentina.
I don't know where to look next. Any advice would be appreciated!
P.S. There is a Vito Vinci from Buccheri on EllisIsland, but I've been told his father's name is not Salvatore (it was Nunzio) and he was never married until he came to NY (although he could have abandoned her and kept it hush, hush) an I was told his brother stayed in Argentina (that kind of doesn't make sense) but, I never heard any of his descendants speak of the brother...as if they never met him.
Unfortunately everyone is either dead, senile or knows nothing.
a Juan Giovanni Vinci came in USA in May 28, 1923 coming from Buenos Aires, Argentina, born in Sicily, IT lefting the brother Gaetano Vinci in Buenos Aires and joining at "friend" Vita( Vito) Vinci in Bronx, NY

If you can provide further detail, members can search for records which may reveal further clues for you to follow. Spouse's first name, maiden name if known, names of children, and any birth dates, even a year can be helpful.

by Mormon's microfilm you can descover more abt your ancestors:gaeber wrote:RE: Hiring a researcher in Italy -
How much info does one have to have to make it worth while to hire a researcher on location in Sicily?
I only have Name, dob, commune and possible father name for Vito. Is that enough to actually have a successful outcome?
Has any of you ever done it?

Re: Vinci -
Did they happen to have a brother named Calogero (Charles)? Origin Sicily (Palermo)?
