I am trying to find baptimal record for my grandmother's infant sister. She was born in Brooklyn in 1906, the year after my great-grandmother and her daughter (my grandmother) arrived in NYC to join their husband/father. Unfortunately the baby only lived for 6 months. They resided at 29 Spencer Street in Brooklyn. I was wondering how to go about learning which churches would be attended by Italian immigrants in that area of Brooklyn. Then I thought I would write to the parish to inquire.
Thanks for any information or direction anyone can provide.

Tessa there are 2 parish churches for the 29 Spencer street address in Brooklyn, NY so perhaps contacting the Diocese office of Brooklyn, NY at 75 Greene Avenue, Brooklyn, 718-623-5231 and ask them which church is closest and the names of the current Priest (this always helps when you make an intial call to a church) =Peter=

Hello Peter,
Just wanted to follow-up with an update on my search for a baptism record from 1906.
I followed your suggestion to contact the Diocese of Brooklyn and learned that St. Lucy was the parish closest to my great grandmother's address. I put in a call to Fr. Lynch there. He was so helpful and so personable. He explained that St. Lucy closed in 1974 and merged with St. Patrick. He told me he would look through the records and call me back. During this conversation we talked about all the different spellings I had found for the family's last name in my research. Within 10 minutes he called with the news that he had indeed found the baptism record I was searching for. In fact, he was as thrilled as I was that he was able to locate it since the spelling was yet another version that was soooo different from any that I had come across. Fr. Lynch and I then had a pleasant conversation about the parish, the neighborhood, etc. He is mailing a copy of the baptism record to me. I am mailing a nice donation to the church.
