Name can't be found in Ellis Island records

Post by amylaws »

My Grandfather came to the states in 1920 from Italy ( Francesco Martellacci), but I can't find his name anywhere. His Sister (Pia Martellacci) came to the states in 1913, and I found her name, but I don't understand why I can't find his. Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks,
Amy

Perhaps he entered the USA at a port diffferent than his sister. Since you provide no information as to what por the best thing to do is go to www.genealogylookups.com/narchives.htm and file form 81 (Passenger arrivals records for USA) at National Archives in washington,D.c. Peter

Peter,

I have filed a form 81 and they can't seem to find his name anywhere either. Any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Amy

Did he die after 1963? If so perhaps the social Security death index will haev information about him in their original application SS-5. Go to www.ssdi.genealogy.rootsweb.com. You can obtain a copy of th application for about $30.00. Peter

An added thought. I just went thru the Martellacci surname without any first names in mind on the ellis island website and there are only 4 or 5 Martellaci from the same town of Montorio about 1920 give or take a couple of years with different first names. it may be that one of these 4 or 5 may be Francesco whose name is other than francesco in the records. Why not go thru the listings and examine the ships ,amifests since they were typewritten in the 1920's and will be easy to rread and see if the person they were destined to on the ships manifest is familiar to you.
