Re: Regio Eercito Italiano Truppe D'Africa.
Hi Tessa,
No the war I was wanting to know more abt was called The Boar War. The years on the papers I got are dated oct. 1891. Below is the orignal post I posted asking for help. I was told by my grandmother and uncle that he was a medic in this war. Hoping this helps! TY
I have received copies of Italian War Journal of my great-grandfather Guiseppe Lostracco. Regio Eercito Italiano Truppe D'Africa. The date signed was October 1891. In these papers it gives a physical description of him and such. It appears to be a journal he kept a log of ammunition, socks and things like this. I was told by my grandmother he was a medic in this war. Is there anyway to find this out? I had wrote to Bugnara a while ago asking for information on him but never received a response. Doe anyone know anything about this war? Any thoughts or information would be greatly appreciated.

TY,
There are many talented volunteers on this forum who might be able to help you, but it would be better if you could post one or two of the relevant papers for viewing by our experts.

Hi Tessa,
I don't have anything scanned yet but that is a good idea. The papers I have are his Italian Journal and I don't know if the paper I seen was a discharge paper. In the journal itself he kept a log of everything that came in and out of his troop. Also was a physical description of what he looked like how tall, hair and eye color, what his profession was. My mother told me she even remembered him making cough syrup for them when they were young at home. TY for your help

Aren't you refering to the Anglo Boere war? I live in South Africa and that is the war that we had here. However, I know the war was only declared in 1899. My grandfather, Francesco Basile came here in WWII.

It was a war against the english and boere. I know it is pronounce by the english as boar. I searched boar war, but can't find anything. If you want to know more about the Anglo Boere war you can just google it, there is alot of information.
But I'm not aware of predominant Italians in that war.

Hi, try searching for the 'Boer' war, not Boar, between the Dutch and the British. They had a couple of goes at it, early in the 1880's, than again from about 1899 till 1902?
Edited: My husband believes one of his Irish ancestors was involved, and I know a lot of New Zealanders did, it involved a lot of British troops (presumably from many colonies) but I'm not sure where the Italian connection came from. Definitely BOER though.

Searching for my great x3 grandfather Raffaele CIACCIA, also known as Raphael/Ralph CHURCH. He was born in Napoli around 1792 and arrived in London before 1812 with his brother Saverio CIACCIA, where they married sisters Ann and Jane FURNEAUX. He switched between CHURCH and CIACCIA all his life, which has made it difficult enough to pin him down. I want to find his origin in Italy.

The papers that I have from the service had on Regio Eercito Italiano Truppe D'Africa. Wouldn't that mean the Italian-African War? I am so confused now..
Re: Regio Eercito Italiano Truppe D'Africa.
Hi Tonyj,
There was more than one Boer War in South Africa. I think what you are referring to happened around 1895 when there was an Italian Regiment fighting alongside the Boers (South Africans) against the British Army.
THere is a website you might like to look at which will give you some interesting information about the events at that time:-
samilitaryhistory.org/lectures/italy
Hope this helps
However, there was also a separate Italian presence in the late 19th century, in North Africa: the Triple Alliances (Between Germany,Austria-Hungary & Italy) when Italy had designs on Tunisia which was at that time occupied by the French.

Seraphina,
TY for the website all I really know and remember is my grandmother calling it The African-Italian War and The Boer War. I will look at the site I will be very interested in seeing what information they have on it. Do you know if there was a list of names of the people who served in these wars? Thanks again,
Toni
