Pirrera & Di Mattia Family from Castrogiovanni (Enna)

Post by ToniMarie »

Looking for additional information on my great grandparents.

Salvatore Pirrera: 2 Feb 1881 - 14 Feb 1974 (Baltimore, MD, USA)
Born: Castrogiovanni, Sicily (Enna)
Married: Concetta Marie Di Mattia
Sailed: S.S Algeria 6 Nov 1907 to New York from Palermo
Sister: Francesca Pirrera, sailed S.S. Italia 11 Apr 1907 to New York from Palermo

Concetta Marie Di Mattia: 8 Dec 1891 - 1 Feb 1974 (Baltimore, MD, USA)
Born: Castrogiovanni, Sicily (Enna)
Children: Michele born 29 Sep 1906 in Castrogiovanni (Enna)
Father: Arcangelo Di Mattia

I've been told but have not been able to confirm that Concetta's family owned a grocery and were robbed. They family was tied up and left. They were found dead approximately a week later.

If anyone has additional informationn (i.e. siblings, mother, father, etc), could you please let me know. Any information would be most appreciated.

Thanks,
Toni Marie Pirrera

Did the above occur in US or Italy?

What US documents to you already have so we don't duplicate?

Manifest for Concetta DiMattia and son Michele Pirrera, May 1908
Notation on Michele's line seems to indicate that he was naturalized around 1941...

On Concetta's manifest above it is noted that she leaves her father, Arcangelo DiMattia in Castrogiovanni...

I've joined ancestry.com and have all the U.S. documents which include Salvatore, Concetta & Francesca's manifests upon their arrival to Ellis Island. I also have a copy of Salvatores WWI Registration Card and 1930 U.S. Census. I am in touch with U.S. relatives but we have no record before Salvatore and Concetta's arrival to the U.S.

Concettas family owned the grocery in Castrogiovanni, at least that is what I have been told. Their deaths would have occured after 1910.
