Help translate - Late Nonna's Birth record from Montemarano

Post by FromMontemarano »

I'm trying my best to understand this birth record from our late Nonna and would be happy if anybody could give me some help. It's from Montemarano, Italy from the late 1800.

Thanks!

Hello and welcome :-)

Birth record #67
for Emilia DeVita or DeVito
Dated 9 July 1886 (but child was born on 8th of July)
In Montemarano
Before the official at the town hall appeared Pietro DeVito, 30, peasant farmer, residing in Montemarano, to declare that on the 8th of the current month at 5:20 PM at the house in Contrada Leo(sp?) to Cancetta Mangiello(sp?), his legitimate whife, peasnat farmer, living with him; was born a female child to whom they gave the name Emilia.
Witnesses:
Luigi Grillo, 50, peasant farmer
Vincenzo DeVito, 50 PF
Only the official signed because the rest were illiterate.

Thank you so much for helping me with this. Are you sure Pietro's age is 30 years (even) because it says something behind it (of course I have no clue what it says..)Again, thank you so much!

The document reads "di anni trenta; contadino, domiciliato..."

which means "of years 30 (age 30); peasant farmer, residing..."

He is definitely 30 years old (according to the record) :-D

Looks like it says "senza" which means "without", so there is no number...
