Levaggi family-- Genoa/Mezzanego

Post by KBritton-Levaggi »

I am a young American family-historian looking for information on the Levaggi's of Genoa. I am planning a trip to Italy in September and would love to do a little research while I am there if possible.

I am the grand daughter of Madeline Levaggi-- the daughter of Andrew C Levaggi who was born in 1893 and lived in Bloomington, Indiana until his time of death in 1963. His parents were Italian immigrants, Davide Levaggi (born in Genoa 3/19/1862) and Sarah Levaggi (b May 1870), whom immigrated through New York around 1882. They were living in Cincinnatti, Ohio by the time of the 1900 US census.

I believe that David died in Mezzanego while visiting family there in 1929. He had a brother named Angelo Levaggi living in Mezzanego in the early 20th century, as he is listed as the person of contact on the ship records.

I am very interested in ANY information on the Levaggi's that any one has to offer. Also, if you know a way of finding the names of Davide's parents I would be SO appreciative. I am having trouble searchign for Italian records here in the USA.

Thanks!

Hi, by passport, Davide Levaggi was born in Mezzanego also

U.S. Passport Applications, 1795-1925
about Devrde Levaggi
Name: Devrde Levaggi (Davide Levaggi)
Birth Date: 19 Mar 1862
Birth Place: Mezzouigo, Italy (Mezzanego)
Age: 47
Residence: Cincinnati, Ohio
Passport Issue Date: 25 Aug 1909
Passport Includes a Photo: No

I found a marriage transcription (Mezzanego 20 dec 1877)abt marriage in Hamburg, Germany, of 22th sep 1875 abt:

-Angelo Nicola Levaggi 27 old, farmer, born in Mezzanego, resident in Altona, son of Lorenzo Levaggi resident in Mezzanego and of Maria Ginocchio ditto

-Maddalena Luigia Basso, farmer 17 old, born in Moconesi, resident in Altona, daughter of Emanuele Basso resident in Altona and Rosa Casagrande resident in Moconesi

from what I understand, Angelo emigrated in Altona-Hamburg, married at Maddalena, also a italian immigrant in Altona-Hamburg.. he back in Italy in 1877 and I know not if, after some year, he back definitively in Mezzanego...
it could be the your Angelo??

I found the death record of Davide; he died in Chiavari Hospital on 29 Dec 1929; the death transcription in Mezzanego is dated 21 feb 1930;
Davide Levaggi son of late Lorenzo

Davide Levaggi 67 old, born, domiciled and resident in Mezzanego, died in Chiavari Hospital on 29 Dec 1929; son of late Lorenzo Levaggi and of late Maria Ginocchio; widow of Serafina FOSSA daughter of Luigi.

so the record above of Angelo Levaggi is abt the right Angelo, brother of Davide.

Suanj,
Are the links for "familysearch" a subscription site as I keep getting a "please try later" after a few searches.
I'm trying to find a marriage document for Carlo Manfredi, born c1858.
His first child Marie was born in 1881, so i'm looking around 1875/1881. Any help will be much appreciated.

the familysearch.org website, free subscription, it work very well...
maybe ... "please try later" is for temporary problem; now it work and all is ok

it are no the marriage acts, but bann marriages

you can search here
Matrimoni, pubblicazioni 1873-1880

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/T ... c=14029866
no index so you must read the names on the bottoms, 416 pages, and I am sure that you will find the marriage bann ...
regards,
suanj
