Part 2_Atti di morte - Help

Post by DebiHarbuck »

I would greatly appreciate help with this record about Carmela Sausto, please?

Family records indicate that Carmela Sausto, daughter of Francesco & Rosa Felitti married in 1914 in NYC. If she really died in Pittsburgh in 1912 as this seems to indicate...well, the next reunion might be interesting.

On Dec 15 1928, Donata Priore, presented the death act (translated in Italian) of her sister in law Carmela Sausto and requested to register the death in the Italian books. Text of the act followas:
"(United Staes of America) - Death Act- St George Church in Pittsburgh (State of Pennsylvania) - Death date August 2 1912 - Death place Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania) - Personal details of the deceased: Carmela Sausto wife of Pietro Saustol- Cause of death ____ - Burial place St George Cemetery - Burial date Aug 5 1912 - Priest name ????? - Issued Apr 24 193 - Signatures etc..."

The cause of death is not recorded.

I certainly hope so, Tessa! (And, yes, that's our Carmela and Frank, in the Bronx...where they belong :)

Thank you, Livio for the translation. Is it possible the official in Vietri recorded the wrong parents in the margin? I guess I'm off to figure out who Donata Priore was and which Sausto she married...

I can't help with your puzzle, however the official recorded the parents indicated by Donata Priore...

Yes...however a US death certificate would not have referred to a deceased married woman by her maiden name. So that's a puzzle, too.

Donata Priore married Gerardo Sausto - son of Antonio Sausto and Maria Theresa Grieco. Off to figure out if Gerardo had a brother named Pietro OR a sister named Carmela...

From Pennsylvania Death Index... at familysearch.org

First Name: Peter
Middle Name:
Last Name: Sausto
Name Suffix:
Birth Date: 18 June 1877

Social Security Number: 194-28-xxxx
Place of Issuance: Pennsylvania
Last Residence: Allegheny, Pennsylvania
Zip Code of Last Residence: 15203
Death Date: December 1973
Estimated Age at Death: 96

AND a POSSIBLE 1930 Census for Peter(Pietro) Sausto in Pittsburgh.
By the looks of the marriage ages and immigration dates, wife Rose looks like a second marriage...
Image

And this WWII REgistration card for the above Peter...
Lists his place of birth as VITRO, Italy (Vietri?)

Debi,

On Ancestry there is a family tree for Peter Sausto of Vitro, Italy (probably taken from WWII record)
He is listed as married to CARMELA BELLA (no information about her)
There are two daughters listed: Rose (b. 1905) and Theresa (b. 1909) - both of these daughters were born in Pittsburgh.
Just another POSSIBLE lead... :-)

Thanks, Tessa! That's this same Pietro, then. Brother to Gerardo and BIL to Donata Priore, who married Carmina Bello...whose death is forever mis-recorded in her comune. :(

I will search out that family of Peter Sausto and provide them these records...and the next Sausto reunion might be BIGGER instead of smaller :)

For what it's worth :-)
While I was looking I searched on Rose "Sesto" born 1905....
found someone who may be her in the 1910 Census in an orphanage/home in Pittsburgh, then in the 1930 Census as an adopted daughter of family named POTTMEYER, in Pittsburgh.
Not sure if this is the same person, but worth pursuing if you are so inclined :-)
Did not search for the other daughter Theresa :-(

Oh...sad to think those little girls might have lost their whole family when their mama died. :(

Yes, it would appear that their mother may have been ill for a while... she died in 1912, and Rose was being cared for by the sisters in 1910 :-(

Then again, it might not be her ---

I have pulled the birth and marriage records for this Pietro Sausto, sent a message to the owner of that tree, and left a comment. Hopefully, someone will contact me and I can give this information. I'll keep you posted!

Thank you, again (and again and again!) for your help! :)

My great grandmother was Theresa Trangle and her mother was Carmella. Rose was Theresa's sister. I really don't know any of my family's history but would appreciate any help.
