Trying to trace my great-grandfather

Post by lkschilling »

Hello,

I am new here and not sure how it works but I am working on tracing my grandfather Pasqual Scarpella. He immigrated to the United States in the early 1900's and lived in Colorado the rest of his life. I know he had three sons but know nothing about his life in Italy. Would love to know more.

I have found out that my great-grandfather Pasqual Scarpella was actually born in Colorado, his parents Frank and Sarablinca were both born in Italy in the 1860's. I am trying to trace the Italian heritage of where Frank and Sarablinca came from. We have been told that it was northern Italy but that is all we know. Some rumblings about Albanian decent has circled the family but as far as we can tell they did come from Northern Italy and we would love to figure out where.

Hey suanj!
It appears to be the same location as brother George's WWI Card
perhaps Albanese, L'Aquila, Abruzzo?

You can order a copy of your great grandfather's obituary here:
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~bgs/B ... intro.html

Like his SS Application (see Erudita's note above), it may have his mother's maiden name - if you don't already have it. Her ship manifest was probably under her maiden name since she arrived after her husband Francesco. Her manifest (with two sons) may have a last residence on it. (in Italy women keep their maiden names)

Last Name First/Middle Name Maiden Name Birth Date or Age Birth Place Death Date Paper Date/Page

Scarpella Pasco 23 Feb 1901 Louisville, CO 7 Aug 1974 9 Aug 1974/6

you guys have been so helpful! I am so really grateful.

I've looked at everything, many times I heard Albania, when we've discussed this as a family that is what keeps coming back. Would it be crazy to think Albenga, IT?

Now looking for Mother's maiden name, thanks again so very much!!!!

Just above the black line in the middle of the page there is Serafina Bellini (?); below the line are Giorgio Scarpella and Tomo(?) Scarpella.

Could this be the correct manifest? I am not entirely convinced (mostly because the ages are not quite right).

Age: 4

Destination: New York
Port of Arrival: New York, New York
Ship Name: Alsatia
