Help with the Berardo family tree

I am looking for help putting together the Berardo family tree
I am Richard G. Berardo born in Jersey city NJ 1959
My father was Guido Berardo ( i thought born in Duronia 6/5/1932 moved to US with parent when he was 19 I guess 1951) Could not find them in Ellis Island Index
His father was Patsy (Pasquale) Berardo born 5/24/1896
Mother was Giuila Berardo (Ianiro)(I think was her maiden name)
Beyond that, I am not able to find either of their parent and so on. Can anyone help
I can account for 1 of Guido's siblings, Mike died 1999 Jersey City, not sure if his sister is still alive, but not too conearned about sibling , I would like to trace back as far as possible but again, cannot get beyond my grandparents.
I've tried any of the online sources, without paying yet. seems like I need a source in Italy? I tried the Duronia website but to no avail.

Hi Richard,

First, let me state that you will not find your family in Ellis Island if they came after 1924. Ellis Island records are only from 1892-1924.

Next, there is microfilm that you can rent and order for about $3.50 a roll. You can go to your nearest Family History Center and order the film. It takes about 2-3 weeks for it to come in and you can view copies of original Birth, Marriage, and Death Acts of your ancestors. However, the film for Duronia is very limited. It only boes from 1866-1899. The link below is the microfilm numbers.

Here is the Death Information of your grandfather, Patsy and your granmother Giuila. You can send away for his death certificate from the State of New Jersey.

Name: Patsy Berardo
Born: 24 May 1896
Died: Aug 1968

Name: Giuila Berardo
Born: 1 Sep 1901
Died: Jan 1975


A Death Certificate could list the names of parents as well as mother's maiden names if filled out properly.

I tried to order the death certificates, and I actually need my grandparents, parents name in order to get the death certs, that's the information I dont have , any other ideas?

NJ is a tough state to get death certs from. Try and find a obituary and hopefully that will give you the information you need.
