NY State 1860 Census

Post by ginaruiz1998 »

Hello! Can someone take a look at this census for me when they have a moment? I am looking at this 1860 census...for Miguel Bryant (towards bottom) who is 40 from Cuba. My question is...do you know what "Jno" would be abbreviate for? Is it John? Also..would it be unsual (at that time) to also have a 13-15 year old son NOT be living with the family???

Thanks!

I believe you have not received a response because the link you provided requires a membership

Can you post an image of the census page?

It's ok...I don't think my theory about this one is remotely correct! So..back to tracing my Italian ancestors! But thank you again for looking and trying! I appreciate it!

I have a subscription to Heritage Quest through my local library, and can see the census page, but I honestly have no idea what the name is.

Thank you! It was a really, really long shot about my Cuban line...on of my Maternal Great Grandfathers was born in Havana, Cuba...his name was Joseph and his father was Michael. He was 15 when he came to the USA...he fought in the Civil War...lost an arm in the Battle of Antietam...and survived! His pension file states he came to this country in 1860 and fought with the state of New York and that he had a brother named John who was living in Cuba. His marriage certificate to my great grandmother gives his fathers name as Michael. Being Spanish/Cuban.. I often wondered if that was actually Miguel!
