Does a marriage ban explain why it is banned? I'm looking at Antonio Pacella and Serafina Giuseffi in 1879:
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1 ... cc=1483052
Antonio Pacella (born 1859) - Father: Vito Pacella, Mother: Maria Cardillo
Serafina Giuseffi (born 1862) - Father: Giuseppantonio Giuseffi, Mother: Vincenza Grieco
They end up getting married November 14, 1879... so why was it banned?

Re: Marriage Ban Translation
Hi
In this context the word “bann” means proclaimation. They were documents that were posted before a marriage to insure that there were no impediments to the marriage, such as one of the spouses already being married. They were read aloud and then posted.
If you look at the index it tells you when the banns were posted. The first was on 28 September 1879, the second on the 5 October, and the third on 9 October.
Let us know if you need any further help with the translation and someone will be happy to help.
Edit:
You might also be interested in learning about the supplementary documents that were required before a marriage could proceed, called Allegati or Processeti. You can learn about them here on this thread:

The publication of banns of marriage includes the same information about parents, ages, occupations, place of birth and residence, etc.

Great, I hadn't realised that the marriage record had already been posted and translated on another thread.

jvitiello88: This is true, in this situation, but personally I believe that it is always a good idea to check both documents. Often, but not always, and particularly in my own towns I research, I find that more information is given in the Marriage Banns, particularly about the parents of the Bride and Groom.![]()
