Luigi was born from the natural union of Giuseppe and Mariangiola. His parents were not married at the time of his birth. If you look at this record and compare it to the ones preceding and following it, you will see that Mariangiola is not listed as Giuseppe's wife but rather that it says that the birth was from their union.
Here is a link to their marriage record.

Their marriage did not take place until Aug 30, 1875 at 9:25 a.m. in Frigento. The record also legitimized the two children they had had from their natural union. She was 32 and a peasant in Frigento at the time of the marriage. She was the daughter of deceased Michele Capobianco and dec Lucia di Rienzo. He was age 35 and also a peasant living in Frigento. He was the son of deceased Luigi Ieffa and Carmina Capobianco. The couple requested that they be united in matrimony and that the 2 children born from their natural union be recognized. The first was born on Nov 29, 1867, record #116. He was named Michele Arcangelo. The second was born on Sept 21, 1874 and that would be the Luigi whose record you posted. Images 2747 and 2748, record #8, in case the link I provided doesn't work.
This is the link to birth record of the first son, Michele Arcangelo, no. 116, top left. In the record, Giuseppe reported that the son was born from an unmarried woman, age 23. She was not named in this record.

You're very very welcome, Dolores. So happy I noticed the difference in wording in Luigi's birth record.

Yes, T spelled it incorrectly in her translation. It is Capobianco.dmurphy1940 wrote:Do you mean CapObianco??

Just a quick clarification as to the marriage. It should be noted that the wording you see in this record is also found in births to couples who have been married in the church, but not in a civil record. They might not have been married in the "eyes of the government" but MAY have been married in the "eyes of the church."
Naming both parents in a civil record when there existed no marriage at all would be quite unusual. Don't you agree?
