i read that the groom's father's occupation is cappo maro? (brown hat?)

and the bride's father terra cavalli? (ground horses?)

any thoughts on what the actual translations are?

thanks,

Hi Donna

I believe the groom's father's name is Cappellano, but would he be a Chaplain - definitely not a priest anyway?

I believe the first occupation is cappellaro and not cappellano. Also sometimes spelled as cappellaio-hatmaker

Yes, cappellaro makes much better sense. You are so good, Erudita. I also agree with Ferracavalli but I couldn't find what it meant.

You're both very welcome. I don't know why some days, handwriting in these records is so difficult to decipher and, other days, it just jumps out at me.

Just a side note to Angela-it was not that uncommon for priests and other religious to father children. Many kept mistresses. It's just that the records don't provide us with this kind of info.

Yes, I did know this. I remember both my father and an older sybling telling me this. I was so shocked. I understood that priests took "vows of chastity". To me personally, a "vow before God" is sacred, not to be broken.
