Ellis Island Question

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Ellis Island Question

Post by phishfood »

I have documents from the US Citizenship and Immigration Services that says my great grandfather came over to the US in 1912 from Naples, Italy. I want to get a copy of the paper work that ellis island has to offer. It says that his ship is the Hamburg I believe if I am reading it correctly. How can I find the documentation on the Ellis Island website. I am having trouble. Thanks.

I remember Luigi.... :P

To answer your question...

#1 Go to Dr. Steve Morse's site www.stevemorse.org
#2 Select Ships List (from his list)
#3 Where it says "Arrived between" select 1912 and on the next line "1912" (you did not provide day and month) but thats ok.
#4 Where it says "Ships Name" (contains) type in Hamburg
#5 Select "search"

You will now receive 6 "hits" for the ship Hamburg

1   T715   1807   3998   1912   February   17   3   Hamburg   Genoa/Naples   1400491
2   T715   1829   4049   1912   March   20   2   Hamburg   Genoa/Naples   1400513
3   T715   1856   4118   1912   May   10   2   Hamburg   Genoa/Naples/Palermo   1400540
4   T715   1884   4184   1912   June   19   526   Hamburg   Genoa   1400568
5   T715   1903   4235   1912   July   25   480   Hamburg   Hamburg/Cuxhaven   1400587
6   T715   1933   4319   1912   September   14   588   Hamburg   Hamburg/Boulogne-sur-Mer   1400617

Select the "ship" of date you think is correct...(they didn't give you a month and day? :? ) IT IS A LINK.... to the next field...

Wait.... and wait.... for the data to kick in... go make yourself a coffee...

When the data does "kick in" then you can start searching page by page..... but before you do that...

Select "on separate page" ...(next to the "Display" button)... then hit the display button...

A page will come up.... if it is not the page you want... where it says "Frame" hit the +1 to change each "page".... you can go forward or backwards... and skip a few pages as well...

I use this method many times... it is not easy to use the first time...

I am familiar with some of your research... and I hope Luigi's record can be located... Glad to see you repost at the forum.

Hi Kim :P

Will look for it too...

Hopefully it is there... don't worry about ordering microfilm yet...

Luigi Marrone's inaccessable film would have to be ordered...

But since it's another person... we may have better luck this time.

You know... not all Ellis Island manifests have been transcribed.... the UNTRANSCRIBED manifests are also in the data base... and that's when a page by page search is done... and luckily you were able to get a date of immigration.

I'm finding some Ingleses. where we they living in USA? The only 1912 I found was a Selorico, age 16, from Rocca or Rocco Caramaino, Italy. It looks like this one is going to Colorado. I'll keep looking.
