Marriage of Giuliano Tristaino & Catarina Maltese 1645

Post by sacesta »

I believe this record to be the marriage record of Giuliano Tristaino and Catarina Maltese.

I have one of the marriage pubs for this event which shows that it occurred sometime in 1645 and that Giuliano's parents are Vito Tristaino and Diego Sesinnu, and Catarina's parents are Francesco Maltese and Bartolomea Simone.

This document shows the actual date of the wedding as 3 July, 1645

It appears Vito Tristaino is deceased. Not sure about Diega. I think they may be of this parish, but I am not sure.

Catarina's name appears here to be Maltisi. I have also seen this name appear as Mautisi.

I think Francesco Maltese may also be deceased, but I am not sure about Bartolomea either. They may be of this parish, but again, I am unsure.

As far as witnesses go, I haven't a clue.

Any help you can provide is always greatly appreciated. Record is at upper left. Grazie!

Both parents of the groom were deceased. Note the double "q." The bride's father was deceased but the mother was alive.

Witnesses: GioBattista di Amico and Marco di Giorgi

I'm not sure that you have Catarina's surname correct.

Double Q. Ok. That's good to know. There are so many ways these documents are abbreviated and I'm still relatively new at this. But I'm learning.

Now you have me wondering where I got Catarina's surname from. I thought for sure it was from her daughter's record of marriage (Bartolomea to Rocco Vultaggio). But I don't see her surname mentioned there either (record upper right).

This may be a problem. I traced the name Maltese for another 3 generations. And with the spouses and tracing their ancestors work further out -that's a lot of work that may all be in error. Ugh! :(

Thanks for pointing it out before I'd gone any further.

Any guesses as to what Catarina's maiden name may be?
