i need some help pleasee

Post by LiLItALiAnGeNeS019 »

Hey! I'm new to this web site and am researching my Italian genes. My great grandparents were from Castelfranco and Foggia, Italy. Where should I go to find stuff about them from Italy? I found my mother's grandparents passanger records on ellisisland.org. What do you recommend I do next? Where have most of you found your information? If you wouldn't mind recommending me somewhere that would be great!! Thanks a bunch and hope to hear from someone soon! :D

Two options, one is to check the following site for microfilmed records for the town of origin, two, if the town of origin has not been microfilmed then you would need to send request to the town of origin for birth, death and marriage certificates, provided you have completed all Usa research and know the names of parents and an estimate of year to be researched.

There are some great books available for learning how to trace your Italian ancestry. Your library most likely has a couple. The one I started with was by Sharon DeBartolo Carmack. You'll find out from reading this book all of the many avenues there are for tracing your Italian ancestry.

Census info is used for additional clues, but is subject to variables, as are ship manifest. Both can be very useful. Verifying documents such as birth, marriage, death, baptism, naturalization, ect., ect.,...are used for proof positive that Joe Shmo was your ancestor.

They all have value. Census records will give you a "picture" of the family, may provide relatives living in the home, and useful immigration dates and naturalization status.

I try and collect all documents available. You never know what you will find. Birth, marriage and death records, church records, obituaries, and census to name some. Also propery records can be helpful. City directories for addresses. Social Security applications. Military records. Don't limit yourself to just birth, marriage and death records as you will miss alot of details of the past.

Request are sent to the county or in some cases, the state archives of which the event occured in. Prices vary from place to place and document to document. If you want info for "genealogy" and not "official", the price is usually less. Most addresses and phone numbers can be found easily online.

We have a family member born in Castelfranco named Vittorio Bressan or Bresson, born April 5 1888, the son of Dante Bressan or Bresson. Family info was always that he was from Venice, and since there are several different Castelfrancos in Italy, we are guessing that he was born in Castelfranco, Veneto. However, church and civil registrations at the LDS seem to stop about 1866 for Veneto. I have tried to google Veneto birth records but am getting nowhere. Any suggestions on who to contact to get his family info is much appreciated!
