It's 1861, as you can tell from the link that led to this image (Here is the URL: http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... ewsIndex=0 You can see 1861 in there after the word Matrimoni.) The records online on Antenati only go up to 1865 (at the latest) for Agrigento province, and civil records in Sicily after 1865 look totally different from ones until then.

I suspect that Girolamo's parents were Calogero Di Giovanna and Audenzia Ferraro and that Anna Maria Catanello was originally a proietta (foundling) who didn't have a surname. If so, then they married in 1821. Their first son Calogero was born in 1822. I'll try to find Girolamo's death record to confirm this.

Here is the death record of Girolamo Di Giovanna (from the allegati for the marriage of Michele Di Giovanna and Vincenza Montelione):

http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... ewsIndex=0

As you can see, his parents were Calogero Di Giovanna and Audenzia Ferraro and his wife was Anna Maria Catalanello, so he was the same person as in that 1821 marriage record. It was common for someone born without a surname (as Anna Maria/Audenzia was) to adopt a surname or even use multiple surnames later in life. As for the difference between Audenzia and Anna Maria, I would guess that either she changed her given name, too, which was not uncommon, or the original marriage record was in error and the official who wrote it mixed up the bride's given name with the groom's mother's. I note that there was a birth record in 1843 with parents Girolamo Di Giovanna and Anna Maria Palmeri that also seems to be for the same couple.

Carubia,
Thanks so much for the info, but I am confused. Girolamo is my 5x great grandfather.
Please let me know if I am understanding this correctly.
Michele DiGiovanni married Vincenza Montelione. Michele's parents were Girolamo DiGiovanni and Anna Maria Catalanello. Anna Maria and Audenzia (no last name) are one in the same person because she was a foundling. Wow, how confusing. Thanks so much for all your help. Would you please translate the death record of Girolamo DiGiovanni. I cannot make out the handwriting. I would really appreciate it.
Also, is there anyway you can locate the death record of Vincenca Montelione? Michele remarried a lady named Audenzia Ciraulo. I don't have their marriage record but their first child was born in 1868 so Vincenza probably died around 1865-1866? I have looked in Sambuca and Santa Margherita but with no luck.
Thanks again for all your help.

I've been looking in Sambuca and Santa Margherita but I haven't found Vincenza's death record either. She had a child (Anna Maria) in Dec 1864 and Michele and Audenzia had twins in Dec 1868. If this is really the same Michele Di Giovanna then Vincenza must've died between those births, but I can't find her in the death indexes for 1864-1867, and I went through the 1868 deaths in Sambuca 1-by-1 (since there is no index) and didn't see her in there either. Moreover, on Michele's son Girolamo's 1887 marriage record, it states that his mother Vincenza was still alive, although that may have been an error.

How are you sure that the Michele Di Giovanna who married Vincenza Montalione is the same Michele Di Giovanna as who married Audenzia Ciraulo?

Here is my tree on Ancestry, where you can see the info I have on these people so far. In my tree, I'm assuming that they are the same, but I'm not so confident as other people.

As for Girolamo's death record, I have 3 copies, 2 of which are from his children's allegati, but the original is the most legible. It is attached to his profile here: https://www.ancestry.com/mediaui-viewer ... c434cfc58e

It says he died on 11 Jun 1858 in Sambuca, he was 54, born in Sambuca, a farmer, and married to (the living) Anna Maria Catalanello. His parents were the late Calogero [Di Giovanna] and the late Audenzia Ferraro. He resided in the tower district (Strada Torre) of Sambuca.

Carubia,
Attached is a link to Michele's death record. It shows he was married to Audenzia Ciraulo at the time of his death and that his parents were Girolamo and Anna Maria.

I have that death record in my tree already. Note that it has his mother as Maria Catalano (not Anna Maria) and his place of birth as Santa Margherita instead of Sambuca. I still think that it is for the husband of Vincenza Montalione, but I'm not certain.
