Here's the second record
http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... ewsIndex=0
Number 82
Death of Luigi Alligretti
Declarant Francesco Alligretti*, age 23
Luigi Alligretti died at home on 25 December 1839, profession doctor, son of Pasquale, taylor and Maria Emmanuella ? living where?
He died in the house of the parents (nel domicilio di genitori). Maria Emmanuela Tuzio was "domiciliata col marito" (she was living with the husband)
*I believe Allegretti is the correct spelling of the surname

The groom was not present at the marriage. Instead, his uncle, Don Salvatore Allegretti*, served as a proxy for him, as he himself was living in Naples because he was studying there. Don Salvatore was age 60 and a religious man. He was the son of deceased Giuseppe (Allegretti).
Maria Emmanuela Tuzio was living with the husband.
The bride's name was Teresina di Palma, daughter of Don Giuseppe Antonio (di Palma), a landowner, and Donna Caterina Vozzi.
*I believe Allegretti is the correct spelling of the surname

Thank you Erudita,
Interesting, this is the second time I have seen where the groom was not present at the wedding. I wonder why they did not wait until he returned home.

Re: Luigi Alligretti
Hi Karen
You're very welcome. That is something that this is the second time you've seen a groom not present at his wedding. Other than him living in Naples because of his studies, there is no other specific reason given in the record as to why a proxy was needed. So you can let your imagination go wild on this one.

Re: Luigi Alligretti
I was interested that there wasn't a church wedding. (Sometimes there isn't.) Anyways I looked at the index.
Here's the index to the marriages/promises to marry: http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... 8.jpg.html
If you look at the right hand side, there is no church record recorded and next to that space there is a note, and unfortunately I can't read all the words, but it seems to suggest that the bride died. This is what I read: "non celebrata in ..... alla chiesa essendo morto la sposa"?? - Not celebrated in the ...... at the church as the bride died???
I've had a quick look for a death record in 1839 but not there.

Re: Luigi Alligretti
Are you sure? So it was the groom that died not the bride? Well, I guess that makes sense, because I could not find a death record for the bride. It does say morto not morta. I'm wondering whether she was pregnant and that this civil wedding was a formality to legitimise the birth? He may have been ill. It seems to have "formality" written in all over it, right from the start. I had a look for the allegati earlier but couldn't find it, and thought that possibly the marriage hadn't taken place. I was wanting to look at the document which is itemised at No 3 in the short list of allegati on page 3 of this Act.
This is interesting. Thank you again, mmogno.

Re: Luigi Alligretti
So here is Luigi's death record. He died in December 1839, in the home of his parents, no wife mentioned: http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... ewsIndex=0
Karen: I know that you are really good at reading these records so won't translate, do ask if you need any help though. It looks fairly straightforward. A sad ending
I was going to look to see whether they had a baby but no time as I have another commitment. I'm glad you posted that marriage record. It's been an interesting exercise.

Good catch about the lack of a church marriage, but Karen did post the above death record at the beg of this thread, and I already helped her with the parts of the record she couldn't read.

but Karen did post the above death record at the beg of this thread, and I already helped her with the parts of the record she couldn't read. So she did. I didn't even look at the death record. I was just focussed on the marriage record with no church marriage. Glad that the death record has been translated.![]()

Re: Luigi Alligretti
Thank you all for helping with these records.
I was quite surprised when it was suggested that the church marriage had not taken place because Teresina had died since I located her marriage to her brother in law Pasquale in 1843 (http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... 0.jpg.html)! Unfortunately for them he did not live very long either having died in 1856.
I have not located her death record yet so do not know if she married again but if she did so it does not look to be to another Allegretti brother.
http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... 8.jpg.html
Number 96
Birth of Teresina di Palma date 6 November 1812?
Father’s age 21?
Mother’s age ?
http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... ewsIndex=0
Pasquale Allegretti born 3 September 1822, son of Giuseppe, age 38, taylor, and Maria Emmanuela Tuzio, age 30, a male child
Again, Thank you for all the help.

Re: Luigi Alligretti
Very happy to help, Karen. I could see that this topic deserved further research.
Personally, I don't believe that the marriage to Luigi took place. There is no mention in her marriage to Luigi's brother Pasquale that she was widowed, there is nothing in the short list of allegati about a Death Record for her first husband Luigi, there is no mention on Luigi's death record that he had a wife. It seems like the "promise to marry was made" but it didn't happen? My thoughts here. Maybe someone else can shed a light - I'm off to work shortly. Happy to help at another time.
BTW: You have written in your previous post: "I was quite surprised when it was suggested that the church marriage had not taken place because Teresina had died since I located her marriage to her brother in law Pasquale in 1843" - no she hadn't died, it was the husband that had died. It was a misread on my part because the handwriting wasn't so clear. This has been corrected in subsequent posts here.
