Hello all. In a previous post several of you were so helpful in assisting me to find some records for my Grandmother, Libera Corvetti (DeSocio), and her sister Angiolina Mastropaolo DeSocio. It appears as if both of them were daughters of Rosina Mastropaolo.
In the records I've seen so far, she had at least seven children. Some with an unknown father, some with Angelo DeSocio, and some with Giovannantonio Cristina. With the exception of one child born in Bojano, all were born in Campobasso.
I'm looking for help in finding Rosina Mastropaolo's birth records, marriage records, or death record. Any advise or help would be greatly appreciated. I assume her birth was around 1860-1865, and her death sometime after 1896.
Thanks, in advance, for any help here.

I found this death record yesterday, but can't say for sure if it is for the same Rosa
http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... ewsIndex=0
She died at age 38 in the house at #20 Strada Giardini at 2:03 a.m. She was a donna di casa/housewife (different occupation than in previous records where she was a maestra), the daughter of deceased Angelo (Mastropoalo) and deceased Maria Vittoria Palazzo.

Re: Rosina Mastropaolo in Campobasso, Campobasso
I've read your posts with interest because I've rarely seen anyone make progress identifying the parents of a proietto. My GGF was a proietto and it's a complete dead end for me. I'd like to add some of my data to your quest, some of it is repetitive and some new:
Rosina Mastropaolo, daughter of Angelo Raffaele, age 32, pizzicagnolo, and Maria Vittoria Palazzo, age 26, was born on 03 JAN 1857 in Campobasso, Campobasso, Molise, Regno delle Due Sicilie. Source: Campobasso (Campobasso), Ufficio dello Stato Civile, Registri dello Stato Civile, Atti di Nascita 1857, Num. d’ordine 5, 05 JAN 1857.
As per the civil records, she had (to my knowledge) five children:
Alfredo Antonio Mastropaolo, son of Rosa Mastropaolo, maestra elementare, unmarried, living in Campobasso at Strada S. Paolo, was born on 16 SEP 1879 in Campobasso, Campobasso, Molise, Regno d’Italia. The father was unnamed, unmarried, and unrelated to the mother. Source: Campobasso (Campobasso), Ufficio dello Stato Civile, Registri dello Stato Civile, Atti di Nascita 1879, Numero 383, 20 SEP 1879.
Angiolina Annunziata Mastropaolo, son of Rosa Mastropaolo, maestra, living in Campobasso at Strada S. Paolo, numero 66, was born on 28 MAR 1886 in Campobasso, Campobasso, Molise, Regno d’Italia. The father would not consent to be named and was unrelated to the mother. Angelo Mastropaolo, age 62, presented the birth to the commune. Source: Campobasso (Campobasso), Ufficio dello Stato Civile, Registri dello Stato Civile, Atti di Nascita 1886, Numero 197, 02 APR 1886.
Giovanni Libanelli, proietto, was abandoned at the ruota dei proietti on 01 SEP 1888. He appeared to be newborn, was dressed in swaddling clothes and left without a token or note. He was given into the care of Filomena Barile, wife of Andrea d’Andrea of Sepino. As per marginalia, he was later reclaimed by his mother Rosa Mastropaolo. Source: Campobasso (Campobasso), Ufficio dello Stato Civile, Registri dello Stato Civile, Atti di Nascita 1888, Parte II, No. 66, 01 SEP 1888. On 29 NOV 1888, Angelo Mastropaolo, age 66, presented documents to the commune that verified that his daughter Rosa Mastropaolo had given birth to the child named Giovanni Libanelli on 31 AUG 1888. Source: Campobasso (Campobasso), Ufficio dello Stato Civile, Registri dello Stato Civile, Atti di Nascita 1888, Parte II, No. 87, 29 NOV 1888.
Emilia Consiglia De Socio, daughter of Angelo, 48, negroziante, living in Campobasso, and Rosina Mastropaolo di Angelo, age 33, unmarried and living in Boiano at Via Calderi, was born on 07 JAN 1893 in Boiano, Campobasso, Molise, Regno d’Italia. Source: Source: Boiano (Campobasso), Ufficio dello Stato Civile, Registri dello Stato Civile, Atti di Nascita 1893, Numero 8, 11 JAN 1893.
Umberto de Socio, son of Angelo, 59, ispettore daziario, and Rosa Mastropaolo, unmarried, was born on 18 JAN 1896, at Strada S. Lazzaro in Campobasso, Campobasso, Molise, Regno d’Italia. Source: Source: Campobasso (Campobasso), Ufficio dello Stato Civile, Registri dello Stato Civile, Atti di Nascita 1896, Numero 41, 23 JAN 1896.
As per anecdotal information and possible DNA corroboration, she may also have been the mother of an additional child:
Libera Corvetti, proietta, was abandoned at the ruota dei proietti on 01 JUL 1891. She appeared to be three days old, was dressed in swaddling clothes and left without a token or note. She was given into the care of Cristina Pasqualone, artigiana da Campobasso. Source: Campobasso (Campobasso), Ufficio dello Stato Civile, Registri dello Stato Civile, Atti di Nascita 1891, Parte II, No. 67, 01 JUL 1891.
NOTE: Rosina did NOT have any children with Giovannantonio Cristina, who was married to Rosa Carmela Mastropaolo, the daughter of Domenicangelo and Maria Gaetana Palladino.
Rosa Mastropaolo, daughter of fu Angelo and fu Maria Vittoria Palazzo, age 38, donna di casa, died on 08 DEC 1898, at strada Giardini, numero 20, in Campobasso, Campobasso, Molise, Regno d’Italia. Source: Campobasso (Campobasso), Ufficio dello Stato Civile, Registri dello Stato Civile, Atti di Morte 1898, Numero 314, 08 DEC 1898.
Angelo di Soccio, son of Pietro Antonio and Maria Angelica di Soccio, was born on 15 MAR 1835, in Campobasso, Campobasso, Molise, Regno delle Due Sicilie. Source: Campobasso (Campobasso), Ufficio dello Stato Civile, Registri dello Stato Civile, Atti di Nascita 1835, N. d’ordine 96, 16 MAR 1835. He was married twice. He married Rosa Maria di Meo on 19 OCT 1856. They had five children: Angelica, Concetta, Concetta, Giovanna, and Nicolina, all between 1857-1869. Rosa Maria di Meo died on 05 JUL 1892. He later married Concetta di Lauro on 02 FEB 1899. To my knowledge, they had no children.
I found the time line interesting. Angelo di Soccio acknowledged both Emilia Consiglia and Umberto, who were born after his first wife died. He married his second wife after Rosina Mastropaolo died. Three children born without the father being identified (including Libera Corvetti) were born while Angelo di Soccio's first wife was still alive. Is it possible that Angelo di Soccio refused to acknowledge those children because his wife was still alive but then acknowledged the last two who were born after she died? Of course, Alfredo Antonio Mastropaolo could not be Angelo di Soccio's child since the father is identified as unmarried and Angelo was already married in 1879. Very interesting and I wish you luck in solving the mystery.

Hello John, Hello Everyone,
I was very interested in your discussion because I have a Di Soccio Grandmother, Maddalena Di Soccio. She was in my hometown, Casalattico, Frosinone, and was born about 1694. A man from Casalattico had the patiente to research a huge family tree, which, in fact, reflects the whole town. The reason I was interested is that Maddalena Di Soccio might have been originally from Campobasso, which is not far at all from Casalattico. I would like to know where to find the records dating before 1800, relating to Campobasso
Thank you, Vanessa

Re: Rosina Mastropaolo in Campobasso, Campobasso
Vanessa - I have a database that was extracted from the church records in Campobasso. In particular, the baptismal records of la Cattedrale. It appears (although I can't be sure) that all baptisms took place at la Cattedrale. Books IV through VI cover the period JUL 1636 through 1724. However, I could not find a baptism for Maddalena di Soccio. This does surprise me since my cousin Riccardo de Socio has done research around the world and each di Soccio group that he has found can be traced back to Campobasso.

Hello John,
Thank you for your reply! I understand what you are saying, and possibly these Di Soccio had come from Campobasso earlier than Maddalena's birth, probably generations before.
Thanks again, you have been great help.
Kind regards, Vanessa

Re: Rosina Mastropaolo in Campobasso, Campobasso
John,
I can't believe that I didn't see your note earlier. Here it is eight years later, and I'm just getting back to my DeSocio family tree work.
Your details and information are amazing, and fill in so many of the gaps that were in my tree.
I wonder if there are any records around the foundlings. For instance where was the "wheel"? If the child ended up in a family, like Libera Corvetti did...finding herself as a child of Angelo DeSocio and Rosina Mastropaola, are there some type of "adoption" records? If so where would they be?
I hope to be able to travel to Campobasso this fall, and will be looking for someone to guide me there.
You mention that you have access to some church records? Is it possible that Libera was baptized before being left as a foundling?
As always in genealogy, the more we find out, the more questions we have.
In any event, MUCH THANKS for your information!
Wayne
