Occupation Question, 1818 Gambatesa

Post by JOHN08 »

What is the occupation for Samuele Conte, one of the witnesses found at the bottom of birth record. It is the record on the left, numero 38.

Appreciate your input. Thanks!

John

The occupation in this record is spelled pinciajuolo. I looked for an alternative spelling and plural-pinciaioli-and found it on a 1742 catasto onciario (census) listed as an occupation under the category of artigiani-so he was some kind of skilled craft worker who made things by hand, which were either functional or decorative in nature. As to what he specifically made though, I have no idea. I can't find a translation of the word.

Erudita,

I looked at all my occupational lists and tried alternate spelling variations of this occupation: no luck. Thanks for your research.
